GPL V3 and W2K anyone?

GPL with Voodoo3 under Windows 2000

Iain Mackenzie asked whether anyone had GPL running in Glide mode with a Voodoo3 under Windows 2000. Replies found it worked with Voodoo2 drivers and in software mode but not with current Voodoo3 drivers, and WinVROC needed a DLL removed. Users waited for 3dfx driver updates.

Automated summary.

Has anyone got GPL working under Glide in W2K with a V3 3000? It works for me in software and partly in OpenGL, but Glide, no! Is it the same for everyone? a driver problem? or what? Thanks, Iain
> Has anyone got GPL working under Glide in W2K with a V3 3000? Yes. Doesn't seem to like to switch video modes, but other than that it works great. - George

I'm sorry Tony maybe I'm being stupid here, but I see the official W2K drivers, new beta W9x drivers, older NT drivers, but no new beta W2K! What am I doing wrong? Iain Tony Rickard <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:kZAw4.3297$[email hidden]...

You say GPL runs fine. Are you running with a Voodoo3 in Glide mode? Iain

John! I get 2 messages referring to riched20.dll otherwise it runs fine (I can join races & chat ok) Just a thought - if it is a new install it needs the ini file in the vroc folder. Tony

I'm actually using the "software" rastorizer because htis is a dedicated server machine.

To get rid of that error message, *delete* RICHED20.DLL from the winvroc folder. I have the ini file fix, and I'even trie completely uninstalling/reinstalling both GPL and winVROC.

Err - no you are not going stupid :) I downloaded the official W2K drivers to overcome a weird bug with the V3 drivers supplied with W2K in IE5. Tony! Long time no see! I just installed win2k on one of my systems and tried to get vroc working on it - no joy. Did you have to do anything weird/strange/unexpected to get it to work for you? GPL runs fine, btw. In article <DgUw4.4381$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] says...

I thought so. Yep, GPL works OK in software, but not GLide. It is unwatchable in software I feel. iain

mmm Certainly works great with V2 card. I have access to a V3 so I will try it later. Tony

Well, this system is nothing more than a dedicated server, so I'm not concerned with watching the races or participating in them from this machine. This machine also has a Voodoo2 in it, but I haven't installed the drivers I downloaded from the 3dfx site yet. I did manage to get WinVROC working on it. It turns out that you have to create a driver before WinVROC will allow you to join or host a race.

Works with 3dfx drivers for Voodoo2, but not it appears with the current drivers with a Voodoo3. Apologies Ian for leading you down the wrong path - It was the beta voodoo2 drivers I was thinking of. Tony
Tony, That info is very useful. I've been trying for some time on this NG to see if ANYONE has got GPL working with V3 on W2K without success. You seem to have confirmed that it's the V3 drivers that are at fault. Do you have any recommendation about who I should contact regarding this problem as I can't fully go to W2K until GPL is working! Iain

I found the whole system hung with a V3 card. I guess we wait for an update from 3dfx. Have you got a wheel working in W2k? I have the Guillemot Ferrari USB which is unrecognised. Also Superbike 2000 won't run in W2k - unless someone knows different.... Tony

Iain have you tried the Banshee Patch that's on the USPits site? I don't know if it'll still work but that's what I used (combined with the then beta V3 drivers) on the RTM version of W2k. I haven't bothered to tried it on the retail version of W2k and released V3 drivers combination and won't bother until Logitech release new drivers for the LWFF. I am thinking about upgrading my wife's computer to 2000 ( the kids shouldn't be playing games anyway <G> ) and could try it on there but that won't be for a couple of weeks in any case. -- Michael Horton http://www.bus.nait.ab.ca/staff/mikeh/gpl F2/F3 Hotlaps and Other Downloadables

Tony, GPL is my biggest headache! Most other titles work absolutely fine. The MS FF Wheel works OK, but any Iforce wheels just won't work, yet.
