Hello! I just got my new Logitech Wingman Formula Force. Wow! What a wheel!
I like it very much! ;-) But as you know the pedals suck big time in GPL. So
I need a good replacement for them.. I've heard a lot about CH Pedals, But
I don't know which unit to buy, the pro or the regular version. Is the pro
really better than the regular verion? The pro is two times more expensive
here in Canada, so I think it will.
Also I need to find any good FAQ out there to completly replace my LWFF
pedals with the CH pedals because I don't want two pedals set under my desk
I've read something about that on the net but was unable to get enough
information to make the job. Can somebody help me?
For flight sims yes, for car sims no. Buy the regular CH pedals, they will
last you a lifetime already.
You'll find a link on Alison's pages (http://simracing.com/alison/gpl)
Anyway it's not difficult. Once you've opened both cases, you can figure out
what to do. Basically it's exchanging the wires from one set of pots to
another. You'll have to do some easy soldering.
Good luck,
Leo

Sure, we can help! As Leo mentioned in his response above, Alison's site has
a very good section on pedal conversions for the LWFF written by Steve
Blankenship. Look on the Reader Feedback page of the Controller section, at:

Ricardo Nunnini has some interesting things to say about FF wheels, the LWFF
in particular, at his site:

The following is an email I recieved from Steve Blankenship which helped me
make the swap, thanks again Steve<g>:
" It's not a tough job to convert the pedals, actually; took me about 45
minutes, plodding cautiously along. Mine's not FF, but since the pedals
aren't powered and don't use FF it should be the same for you. Basically,
you just unscrew and open up the Logitech pedal base, unplug the wires from
the two pots (three each) and remove the cable, then plug those same wires
into the pots on the CH pedals, which you've likewise opened (base plate and
pedal covers) and removed the wiring from. Simple wire-swapping, really,
with the following fine points.
Make a note of the respective wiring hookups on both sets before you remove
anything. That way you'll have a reference for what goes where, and you can
revert later if you want to. The Logitech brake pot has three plug-in
wires; blue orange and yellow. The throttle has three also; green, red, and
brown. (viewed from the topside of the pot, opposite the shaft) The CH is
slightly different due to the two-way switch, but no matter. Just draw it
or write it down.
You can forget about the switch on the CH pedals for single/dual axis; you
don't need it now. Just leave it alone and keep the whole CH harness as-is,
in case you ever want to revert. On the Logitech cable, all you have to do
is remove a few inches of the plastic cable sheath (being careful not to cut
the inner wires) to be able to route the appropriate internal wires into the
CH pedal pods and slit and remove the *** plug around the cable that
seals up the pedal base so it can be used again if needed. You'll also need
to "V" out the first couple of slits in the CH base where the tiny wires run
through, so you can get the bottom cover to fit over the Logitech cable,
unless you remove the outer cable sheath that far back. I used a serrated
knife on the base- really high tech.
Once your wires are prepped, just route them into the CH pedals just like
the CH wires were done, with the Logitech brake wires to the CH brake,
throttle to throttle, etc. NOTE: You have to reverse the order of the
brake wires from how they came off the Logitech brake pedal pot, as where it
had rotated clockwise, both CH pots rotate counterclockwise. The wiring
order for the gas pedal pot stays the same as it was. You'll have to bend
the little plugs 90 degrees like the CH ones were, so the pots will sit
properly in their happy homes as before. Note how much spiffier the CH pots
look? Hmmmmm.
Once you're all connected,***the covers back on that sucker, hook it
up, boot up and calibrate. Happy feet! For fun, calibrate your Logitech
pedals in GPL before you do this. Try to hit and hold a reading midway
through the pedal travel, say .500. Then try to move smoothly to .600. See
how hard it is? When you're done, do it with the CH pedals. That's why we
love 'em so. PRECISION."
Best of luck,
don
