OK, so I'm taking the Ferrari out for a spin on the ?sterreichring, and I
suddenly realise the reason why I'm having trouble with the handling is that
the car wants to turn left. It feels like I've banged a wall or something.
But I've only just exited the pits, and besides it's a no-damage training
session. I check the setup and it's perfectly symmetrical - in fact it's the
default Ferrari setup (except with lower fuel load). So I go back into the
car, set off from the pits and drive slowly forward with my joystick (yes
yes, I know) centred - and more importantly, the wheel on-screen is also
centred, it's not a calibration problem. But I find myself driving into the
outside pit wall. Then I carry on regardless, just to try and "drive round"
the problem, lose it in a big way in the final corner and find myself in an
endless bouncing rotating accident - just like in GP2 when you try to drive
a modified track that's had the heights messed with. Finally after about 15
seconds the program just quits and I find myself looking at my W98 desktop.
(GPL hadn't crashed on me since I got my Voodoo3 last August).
Anyone with similar experiences?

Yes, I found the wheel pulling to the left as well. I have not had a desktop
crash however.

Turned out the wheel needed a squirt of wd40 on the dashpots. Couldn't find
any so I improvised.
Seriously, I'll bet it's a problem that a recommended cleanout of your wheel
would fix. Made a huge difference with me. I'm too slow to compare before
after times; but I was faster...

restarting the game always helped. I never had an hard crash, except when I was
experimenting with different Voodoo2 drivers.

First thing I always do is back out of the game and re-start it.
This usually happens (with my experience) after changing from one car to
another but using the same driver.

I've had this problem a couple of times switching to the Ferrari. I thought
there was something wrong with my LWFF as a reboot didn't fix it. However it
worked fine in RC2K and when I went back to GPL and recalibrated/resetup
and it worked fine. Weird but this happened to me twice. Both times with the
Ferrari. I'm not sure I want to find out if it is a repeatable bug since the
only way I found to fix it was to force GPL to go back to default controller
setup and then resetup my controller.

Now i got a USB act labs wheel, it goes straight...
Yes, I've had this once. It was hilarious..and wewy wewy weird :)
I even managed to save the replay. It's quite big because of all
the weird stuff going on I suppose. I put it here if anyone's
interested:

Very strange,
I had this self same problem last night after switching frmo the Brabham to
the Lotus. Exited the pits and had to hold the wheel at 2 o'clock to run
straight. Tried re-calibrating, exiting the session but still no joy. Exited
the game went into the profiler and game controller and everything seemd
fine. Back in the game, still with the Lotus and no problem this time...
don't know why it happened and it has certainly never happened before. Using
a LWFF by the way.
