GPL, N3 and SCGT all on a Compaq 5220, which Video Card?

Hello, Not to beat a dead horse, but Just what is the best video card to get? My current system is as follows... Compaq Presario 5220 AMD K62 - 380 Mhz with 3DNOW! ATI Rage LT Pro (2x AGP) 64 Meg Ram As most of you know the ATI Rage pro is useless with N3 and probably GPL (should be getting GPL in a few days). I have been looking at the 3dfx Voodoo 3 3500. Everything I have seen on the R.A.S. group says that the Voodoo 2 is good with GPL but what about the Voodoo 3 3500? How about with N3? Also would it be possible to use both a new 3dfx card with my existing ATI Rage card? Thanks, Ed

The ATI Rage Pro doesn't support Glide, Rendition or OpenGL and so will be useless for Grand Prix Legends, you're right. Whilst the Voodoo 2 was an excellent graphics card, and still is, it has been passed by far superior cards, such as the Voodoo 3. The Voodoo 3 will work perfectly well in Sports Car GT, Na scar 3 and Grand Prix Legends, but you will need to download the latest drivers for it to prevent texture corruption which appears in GPL. The 3500 is the fastest and best of the Voodoo 3 series, but also the most expensive. You could buy a Voodoo 3 now, or wait a couple of months for the release of the Voodoo 4, 5 and 6 and buy one of them, or enjoy the price drop of the Voodoo 3. You wouldn't need to use your ATI Rage Pro as a 2D card any more. The Voodoo 3 is a 2D/3D card in itself. Besides, it's so much more powerful than the Rage Pro, you'll never look at games in the same light again. Neo

Save yourself some money, buy a V3 2000 card and overclock it V3 3000 or even V3 3500 speeds. All it takes is one change to the registry, easy peesy. See my webpage for more info (overclocking section). 8-) *Peter* - http://www.cix.co.uk/~peterpc/home.html
Unless he wants the TV tuner or TV out. I agree with your assessment, tho. Gunner
