GPL: Week One - Day 6

4 posts by 3 people · 05 Feb 2000 - 07 Feb 2000 20:31 UTC

(day 6) After today, only one more obnoxious post. Struggled with the Brabham this morning at the Glen. At least I'm predictable. I unbalance the car rounding the curve before the big bend. BOOM. Anyway, I decided to give myself a break and take the Lotus out for a spin (this worked for me last time I got in a rut with the Brab). Worked again. Not only did I make a new PB, I also broke 1:10 for the first time (9.66). Also, I was more consistent. I almost didn't make it. I just barely made it around BB. If I had hit that apex I probably would have clocked an 8. Later and to everyone out there who has given me advice, thank you very much. Chris
Don't know about anyone else but I've enjoyed reading the posts of a GPL newbie (cheers Chris) & feeling nostalgic over how it was when I started. Still get the same happy feeling now as I did when I first drove out of the pits in the demo 18 long months ago. Thanks for the day-to-day journal Chris, see you online when you get those laps going. Cheers Colin
Thanks alot for your words of encouragment. This is a very challenging and very rewarding sim and it helps a newbie to be able to talk about the fun and frustrations. I can't wait to be good enough to go online. When I can run a GP without crashing i'll be talking to my cable company to have my upstream bumped up to a good hosting pipe. Chris

Let me tell you what I am nowhere near 'good enough to' race online, but I am there! I figure I will go to a race and qualify and see how I did compared to the others. I went to my first Glen race and qualified a good 1:12 (for me that is!) and when the race was about to start I went to see what I placed and I was 9th . . . no problem seem to start last lots. Then I noticed that everyone else was 1:06:?? to 1:06:?? I figured I had better bail, or I was going to be the cause of much pain in that race. I have raced at Monza and have had fun racing with the slower guys for 4th! So after 3 online races in my career I have a 4th place finish, maybe not the greatest, but its mine! I have had GPL for over a year, but only had a puter it would really run on for about 6 months. I have only just started to really race. SLG BTW there are plenty of nice people online. I figured the first time I whacked someone I was going to see bunches of *&%%&* yelling, but most people are really cool and are not like they are if you do something wrong in a real car (you know 'road rage') I find that GPL helps me lots in this area alone. Look up BikKat if you are ever on Vroc I love to have a race! "The Mighty Puck" <[email hidden]> wrote:
