It's true you know. Huge thanks to GTX_SlotCar for pointing this out!
I've got a Saitek wheel. I just set damping to 1200 instead of 0, and
noticed effects that definitely weren't there before. Also most of the
annoying friction is gone! Much easier to feel the front tires gripping
now. Really feels a lot like the rack-and-pinion steering on my little
Honda Civic! Try it!
I started a new thread just because I wanted to make people aware that this
isn't just for the Ferrari wheel.
Thanks again, Slot!

I did the same thing with my MSFF and it made it feel better. I wish GPL
had a castor adjustment in it though as it would adjust the re-centering
of the wheel.

Before you buy.
Doesn't it? I knocked the front end out of alignment in a qualifying heat
and it definitely tracked straight with the wheel off center. This is a huge
improvement over the original non-FF wracked response: you tug it off center
against spring pressure until the car tracked straight.
Michael.
Well, I'm still experimenting.
If you're feeling adventurous you can try this:
force_feedback_damping = 2700.000000
force_feedback_latency = 0.300000
max_steering_torque = 3300.000000
Far beyond the values reccomended in the readme file, but you get some
interesting effects. The car almost seems to steer itself. I think it
feels a bit too squishy, though.
For now I'm using this, which feels more taught, but seems to lack some of
the neat effects:
force_feedback_damping = 40.000000
force_feedback_latency = 0.300000
max_steering_torque = 400.000000
By the way, I've got a Celeron 366. If your system is faster, you might
want less latency.
I think I'll experiment with gradually higher damping values. It's
interesting that inreasing the damping makes the overall force more powerful
and requires much higher torque values. I don't fully understand it yet.
Naturally, you'll be less impressed than I was if you didn't have damping
set to 0 to begin with. ;o)

wheel is smooth, I feel every little slip of the tires, the road is smooth,
if I go onto the edge of the grass the wheel buzzes (for lack of a better
word), if I run on the grass the wheel bounces slightly, running onto a curb
tosses my wheel and hitting a rail almost pulls it out of my hands. Which of
these feedbacks would be spurious or unintended? I'm not feeling bumps that
aren't there. However, with damping at 5 and torque at 200, we've all
(including you with the Saitek according to a previous post) felt spurious
forces on a smooth road that shouldn't be there. Frankly, it is not logical
to set the damping to zero with Constant Force feedback programming. If you
try these settings and you like them, you can still complain about lack of
forces in N3 <g> so all is not lost.
