Is Rally Championship 2000 a real simulator?

Posters debated whether Rally Championship 2000 or Colin McRae Rally was more realistic. Some praised RC2000's authentic stages and its full version over the demo, while others criticised its light, sticky cars and easy rollovers. Install problems and a physics patch were also discussed.

Is Rally Championship realy a simulator ? The demo is REALY NOT ! Colin Mcray rally is REALY a simulator !
Try Rally Championship 2000 once with Act Labs Force RS -driving wheel with extra gear shifter, then should learn, that the RC 2000 is a real simulator. Or ask someone who is driving in Mobil 1 Rally Championships in UK... I got all these V-rally 2, Colin McRae and RC 2000 and so on, and my opinion is, that RC 2000 is absolutely the most realistic.
Except for following the facts: - Any fence is stronger than your car - Any bump to the side will put you upside-down - Slow acceleration of 2wd's (it takes a Golf IV kitcar 7 sec to reach 100 km/h. In real life it's around 5 sec) Anyway, it is by far the best sim yet. And yes, you should use the Force RS with RS Shifter... CMR is not a simulator...yes the feeling of driving CMRs cars i very good, but other than that it aint very realistic. RC has much things that makes it realistic, even tough the feeling of the cars isn't so god...

The reason the fences don't break is because they had to have resource limitations. It would of been nice if the fences at the gates would break, but you shouldn't be hitting them anyway. :-) David G Fisher
I have the uk version orange box and is great. CMR the cars seem to float on the track. Nick > > Is Rally Championship realy a simulator ? > > The demo is REALY NOT ! > > Colin Mcray rally is REALY a simulator ! > The final version of RC is much better than the demo.

The demo was more like the arcade version of the final game, if I remember correctly. For all I know, the career option in the final game is *very* realistic. MrTC

If you go to the rally championship2000 website, they have a patch that addresses some of the physics issues. Some of the items are (off the top of my head), - Sticky/Less sticky grass - Heavier cars (the cars seem very light in RC2000) The steering sensitivity has to be turned way down, otherwise, your car goes all over the place. I prefer colin mcrae, as it is more fun. RC2000 seems more realistic? Some of the RC2000 tracks are way too long and too narrow... There's colin mcrae 2.0, coming out in apr/may as well. I've got the orange box and can't install it. When it reaches 100% the screen blacks out and then the PC just hangs. Any ideas on how to install it? Thanks, TeamHog [email hidden] On Tue, 25 Jan 2000 18:33:19 -0000, "Nicholas Griffin" <[email hidden]> wrote:

I got it to install... yippeee.... It had to do with the fact that I was trying to install the full version without first removing the demo copy of it. Basically I had to remove all references to the program in my registry, reboot, and then install it. Now it works great. RC2000 is (probably?) the more realistic simulator. For example the stages are geniune rally stages and can take ages to complete. The car seems particularly difficult to handle at times - I'm almost convinced its treating my steering wheel as a digital device - I assume it simply has a more realistic model that highlights my "ham fisted" approach. You can certaintly chuck the car about a bit more in CMR (even the front wheel drive ones). I cannot help feeling that CMR is a bit more fun though, and the quality of the interface on CMR is much better. For example, setting up a steering wheel in RC 2000 is a bit hit and miss, and the game does have long "loading" screens every time you touch a button. (Having just given up on "hidden and dangerous" due to the sheer number of bugs, I realise just what high quality products CMR and RC 2000 are). -- Steven Dawkins - Research Assistant - University of York.

It's still like driving a cardboard box. There is just *no* inertia! Actually that seems to have slipped by the physics programmer completely... *The car flips over way too easily. *The car stops on 20 metres from 160km/h....on gravel!! *There's no sliding whatsoever.(ok, a little... too little...) *The steering is *way* off mark. Realisticly, if you go down a gravel road 80km/h and steer quite a bit, the car won't move instantly off the road. >Some of the RC2000 tracks are way too long and too narrow... Actually, that's pretty realistic. However, as the car handles like it does it's pretty much impossible to drive on-road. >There's colin mcrae 2.0, coming out in apr/may as well. Yep, same here. CMR more fun and slipping and sliding. RC2000 harder to keep on the narrow roads but nicer on the Force Feedback Wheel, steep on the 3D card requirements. Marc > > > >>I have the uk version orange box and is great. CMR the cars seem to float on

Car-Model in CMR feels better. I recognice the innertia item below (get off the accell, steer, hit the accel and you made a 90 degree turn). Marc

Hello, I may have missed part of the thread...Where is the 2000 website? Thanks, Paul

You need to change the game's parameters via a ral.cfg file. See http://forums.simracingnews.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi > Yep, same here. CMR more fun and slipping and sliding. RC2000 harder to keep > on the narrow roads but nicer on the Force Feedback Wheel, steep on the 3D
