Basically, how do I have good starts to my races. For example, after
qualifying first at Monza (thanks to Alison and Nate Hines' ai tweaks), I
can't get off the start line without ending somewhere around 11th place by
the first turn. The computer cars explode off the line, but my car stutters
until it finally builds up speed. Whether I turn throttle help on or off,
the problem still exists. I even keep it in first gear, hold in the clutch,
and rev the engine to the max, and release the clutch when the flag drops,
but to no avail. Another side note....does disabling throttle help make a
difference?? I ran my best time today (1:32xx Monza) with it on, but I
really don't feel comfortable with it off as I spin too much. I guess I
could get used to it, but if it doesn't make a difference, I won't
bother....
Any help would be greatly appreciated....
Dave
The throttle help would be the hands down problem. W/o t.h. i hold the
clutch in, rev to 6k, green flag moves, clutch comes out, more gas
goes on to keep around 6000 and i blow away the AI.

Like
everything else in GPL, starts take A LOT of practice. Some guys use the
clutch, some rev the engine and bang into 1st at flagfall, and some just
mash the throttle at the start. In all cases, the aim is to get enough
wheelspin to keep the revs high, but not too much so that you just sit
still, or worse, spear off into the cars next to you. Also like most things
in GPL, when you get it right it's immensely satisfying. My best start at
Monza is from the back of the grid (no practice) to sixth place by Curve
Grande (first corner). Then, of course, off at the second Lesmo !!
Cheers..
