Measuring Resistance on Pots(potis?):Multimeter?

What I am looking for here is the name for the device to measure resistance, is it Multimeter? I am still puzzled why I the CH Pedals will not work properly when wired to the MSFF. Someone suggested the pots may different resistance and I should buy some with the same. I have tried using the LWFF pots, the Ch pots and the result is always the same. It works but the length of the pedals are just as short as the MSFF once wired into the MSFF. I use the LWFF for GPL but I still have to use the MSFF for other sims as I don't like the CH Pedals wired into the LWFF as USB doesn't give me the same precision as the PDPI does Another guy suggested finding a program that tells windows that the pots on MSFF have more length, but I doubt you can do that sort of thing through software, or can you? Another thing that its been burning in my mind for a long time: Is there a way to connect the LWFF to the PDPI L4? That would be the perfect solution for me in GPL at the moment, or is it not possible? Any advice from you GPL electronics experts out there? Many thanks. Mauricio.
While we are on the subject of pots.. In GPL while in neutral if I press the gas very slowly, The RPMs will slowly rise from 1500 (?) RPMs to 2100. Then it'll take a nose dive to 0 and back up to 1500. As I continue to pres the gas, The RPMs will jump from 2200 to 2400 and then continue correctly. This happened on my Thrust Master T1, T2, T3, CH, and home built. So it's not a matter of dirty pots. One note.. I do have the travel lengthened a bit on all of these. So, Is there a set figure that the game ports recognizes? I.E. no matter where the ohms start, it's always a range of say 250 ohms, anything over that it'll start over again? Or is it specific to the game port? What? I can adjust the travel length but if I didn't have to... It's a real sun of a gun to roll the gas only to find a spot where the engine missfires then continues smoothly. -- ========================================= Mike Barlow of Barlow Racing? ========================================= http://members.xoom.com/BarlowRacing/ Racing online with the help of...... erm, this is a long shot, but have you considered the deadzone? if your pedals are split and non centred ,the deadzone will appear in the middle of the pedal range ,i have seen this myself and i don't think dxtweaker has solved the problem (ie; setting the deadzone to 0 does not affect a solution) wierd huh? evphelps

Actually Mike, the symptoms you described sound exactly like dirty pots. I'd be surprised if they weren't dirty on all 5 of your controllers. Probably spending a buck and a half for some turner cleaner at Radio Shack would be worth a shot. You'll need it later anyway. Give it a try. Slot

What you need is an ohm meter, easiest to find in a common Multi Meter aka multi tester. I think the LWFF is USB or serial, so it won't work with the PDPI. Slot

It does sound just like dirty pots. But! this is with new pots and old pots. Right at the same place. When I adjust the throw of the gas peddel I don't get that at all, but I'd rather have that extra bit. When I first noticed this I did go out and grab some cleaner/lubricant. That didn't do the trick, so I went out and grabbed some new pots. Again, that didn't do the trick. So, It has to be either the Sim limitations or the game port limitations. Mike, in that case I'd say gameport limitations. I don't think you'll find a cure, but if you do, don't forget to share it with us. On Mon, 10 Jan 2000 19:59:18 -0000, "In2home User" No. The deadzone is not an issue here as only about 60% of the pedal travel is available. Surely it must be something to do with the resistance. Cheers Mauricio.
Download and run DXTweak, watch what happens to the pedal range while moving the pedal thro full travel. It should just rise all the way/ or fall with no jumps od dead spots. You are sure that you are not running the pot over the end stop and accross the "no resistance" part of the track in it?? Try an arc on the pot starting from a different point, do it with your hand with the pot disconnected from the pedal and see what happens..... MikeT. --
