After seeing the post by Andreas Kroell a week ago about him finally lapping in Monza under 1.28s I decided to have mine here as well. His case is exactly like mine as I have played GPL for the last year and more intensely the last 6 months. I had also been stuck on 1.28.03/1.28.05 for ages, but I must admit I tried harder after reading his post. My secret to the magical 1.27s was also the Curva Grande. After Andreas mentioned his kamikaze technique going into it, I thought that he maybe right as I thought I had good speed everywhere else. So on to Monza and after only 8 laps I did 1.27.86 on the last one with the previous being 1.28.51! Nearly a second there. I used a different technique entering Curva Grande as to the one he described in his post; it's a combination of his advice and my own driving style, ability and car setup. But without his suggestion I would never have got the 1.27 as I have been looking as to why I wouldn't lap below 1.28s for a while. I still feel there's more speed to be gained through the Lesmos and exiting the Parabolica, but I suppose when I get that right I'll be posting here about 1.26s (it is possible!). I achieved it last Saturday and since I am off work today I decided to dedicate 5 hours of if to GPL, and only this morning I managed to improve a bit more and have set my PB to 1.27.51! I did another 30 laps after that but haven't gone any faster, too e***d I suppose. I drive the Lotus but in Spa as I like the Eagle there, but I found once I could drive the Lotus I could drive any of the other cars, although not as fast of course. Also I have only improved my times since moving from MSFF to LWFF/CH pedals. As for my setups they were initially a mix from W.Woeger, I.Lake and a couple of other known hot lappers with my own tweaks. But in the last 3 months I got fed up with other people's setups and decided to take and ingredient from each that suited me, my own setups, a lot of reading on the subject together with a lot of testing laps, and finally came up with 2 or 3 setups I can call my own and they're well suited to my driving style. It would be interesting to hear about other GPLers out there who also have been playing it for nearly a year, and find out where they are now. I believe anyone lapping consistently in Monza at 1.28s is a fast driver and no doubt could go faster. If I can, they can. So who else has broken into the 1.27s in Monza? Let's hear it. Cheers. Mauricio.
Well, you didn't exactly get my name right (it's Andre Warringa), but I'm glad you also succeeded in breaking the 1:28. A great reference for drivers who broke the 1:28 is at Schubi's hotlap site at http://www.parc-ferme.de/fastlaps.htm. The current world record is 1:26:79 by Leonardo Grandis. Be sure to give his setup a try (you can download it from the site), it's a perfect setup for the Curva Grande! Andre

On Mon, 10 Jan 2000 18:40:45 +0100, Andre Warringa Sorry about the name, I think the very first post somehow says Andreas something as the author, never mind. I will try Leonardo's setups right now. Cheers. Mauricio.

Congrats! Took me almost exactly a year too! Finally did it about a month ago. For me there wasn't one particular corner that was costing me time. I was losing a little time *everywhere*. But lately I've developed a deeper understanding of setups, and slightly stiffer rear springs and more asymmetrical camber made the difference. Downloading hotlapper setups didn't seem to help, I needed to make something that suited my style. Ever since then, I've been improving everywhere. Even managed to shock myself and do a 1:04 at the Glen. Makes GPL more ***ive than usual! -A

I have gotten to 1.29.31 with the eagle and know I can make up more time in the lesmos, once I get those down the way I like I'll work on the Parabolica a little more. I feel if I switched to the lotus I could break the 1.28 barrier. However I still think the lotus is a wimpy way out since it is the fastest car and I don't think it showed up till the very end of the 67 season. I'll try it out one of these days though just to see what I can get to :) Vintook

pbbbbbbbbbbbfffft. that raspberry lasted approximately 1:28.55.
Well said! Erm, well sounded! I was so inspired by all of this 1:27 stuff that I went out and broke my barrier -- 1:28.99. Now I'll need several weeks rest and nothing but soft, easy to digest foods. Damn sim takes it out of you. Kurt
I don't think there is much difference between the Eagle and the Lotus at Monza. Wolfgang Woeger drove a 1.26.89 with the Eagle, his best time so far, only 1/10th slower than Leonardo Grandis' world record lap of 1.26.79 with the Lotus... If you think you'll automatically be 1.5 seconds faster with the Lotus, you might be in for a little disappointment. But maybe not, let us know the results :) Andre

A little correction: Grandis did a 1:26.72 with the Lotus yesterday :) Andre On Tue, 11 Jan 2000 00:25:55 +0100, Andre Warringa

Congrats on breaking into those 1:27s :) > I believe anyone lapping consistently in Monza at 1.28s is a fast > driver and no doubt could go faster. If I can, they can. > So who else has broken into the 1.27s in Monza? Let's hear it. I only get to play GPL a couple of times a week - not enough! too much work :) But just recently I've come up with a new setup at Monza that's allowed me to get down to 1:28.00 - still not a 1:27, damnit! :) My new setup allows me to carry a tiny bit more speed into the corner and still make the turn, but I'm still not used to going that little bit faster into a corner without feeling like I'm going to smash into something, yet. I did a little online race over the weekend where on my clear laps (the traffic was evil) I was lapping between 1:28.0 to 1:28.4, so I know I should be able to hit those pesky 27's soon... Grant.

On Mon, 10 Jan 2000 12:04:47 -0800, "Aubrey" I have actually changed to a slightly siffer rear springs, although there's more traction available for me with a softer rear springs. I must admit I still don't think I have arrived to a final setup for Monza after all this time. Creating your own setup is the way to go in GPL though, it takes a bit of time and effort to really understand how the car is affected by the different setups, but minute details become more apparent as you lap again and again after your last tweak. Cheers Mauricio

Congratulations! After all this 1.27 talk lately I was inspired to give it a go myself. I am pleased to announce that I too have just cracked the 1.28 barrier with a pb of 1:27.86 in the lotus. I used the setup from the world record holder and power shifted to do it though. Leo

Ok, how 'bout the difference between the Eagle and the Ferarri? Just curious... Eldred -- Tiger Stadium R.I.P. 1912-1999 Own Grand Prix Legends? Goto http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience... Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

Then again, it may have been the driver ;-) I always loved the Ferrari for it's sound when I first started, but was hung up in the low 1:32's for a long time. I looked around at the other cars and tried the Eagle. Within a day or two, I had low 1:30's and never looked back. Of course, on courses with nice tight turns, the Eagle is a little more of a handful. But for tracks where she can stretch her legs out, it seems to give up little to the Lotus & is easier to handle. -- //Chuck Kandler #70 //ChuckK on Won.net & WinVROC //K&S Racing http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/thepits/195 //The box said "Windows 0x5h or better", so I installed LINUX!

Wow. I *started* with the Eagle, then changed to the Ferrari after Alison made her setups. Since then, I've lowered my PB to 1:30.50. I wonder if I could even DRIVE the Eagle now - maybe that would get me to 1:28...? :) Eldred -- Tiger Stadium R.I.P. 1912-1999 Own Grand Prix Legends? I was stuck in the high 28's in the Ferrari so tried the Eagle and did a 1:27.9x in an online race practice session in about 7 laps or so, when I went back to the Ferrari I got down to a 28.4x :) Can't for the life of me get it down with the Lotus though !! -- Ian Parker UKGPL League http://members.xoom.com/ukgpl/index.html http://www.ukgpl.com -- > writes: > >> Ok, how 'bout the difference between the Eagle and the Ferarri? a little more. I feel if I switched to the lotus I could break the 1.28 barrier. However I still think the lotus is a wimpy way out since it is the fastest car and I don't think it showed up till Youll be slower in the Lotus if you've never used it. The Lotus is the hardest car to drive hands down. Rik Anthrax - - "trust the government?? what are you, some kind of moron?"
