I was wondering if the great Dave Noonan has any plans to make the converter there every August). Just wondering...............

Nobody has yet been able (or tried) to convert GPL tracks to N3. But IMHO, MoSport isn't wide enough for stockcars. I think we'd be better off with Spa, Silverstone and Monza. Those tracks are wide, with no sudden altitude changes, and have a good number of straight sections. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================
It might not be wide enough today, but that doesn't stop CASCAR from racing there. If you haven't heard of CASCAR, it's the Canadian equivalent of NASCAR, but all the races are run on short tracks and road courses, since we have no superspeedways up here. The cars look the same as NASCAR, but have less horsepower to match the short tracks. Also, Mosport is currently undergoing major renovations, including widening the roadbed, moving back barriers, hillsides, etc. to allow for widening of the track and inproved sight lines through some of the corners. See www.mosport.com for details. Wayne Hutchison

Yup, soon F-1 will come back and everyone will be happy. Can't wait for the new timing tower to go up. The stairway going to the old one over the pit boxes was rather frightening. Do you know what's happening with the Castrol tower?

God I hate it when people try to compare Cascar to Nascar! The only measure you can compare between them is that Cascar is our 'premier' stockcar league in Canada as is Nascar to the US. When it comes to the cars, there is NO comparison...fiberglass bodies, bone stock components, under powered, under tired, total lack of technological sophistication, etc, etc... And as for the drivers; don't even get me started! Mike Basden > It might not be wide enough today, but that doesn't stop CASCAR from racing > there. Hey, Robin Buck is cool. After he won at Toronto he pulled a Zanardi and did donuts. Though that doesn't make a good driver it was still kind of cool. To bad he only got second at Mosport, i had a much better seat (mmmmm... air conditioned timing tower...).

I have got a guy painting the Cascar set right now. When he's done I will let you know where it is posted..........As well that day at Mosport (the day of the cascar race) was cold! I sat in T5 and had two jackets on as well as two pairs of jogging pants! An a/c control tower? You should have had the heat on!

First, we're not talking about what the real track is like today, or will be like in the future. We're talking about the track as it exists in the simulators. Mosport *in GPL* is NOT wide enough for a Nascar race. Not only that, but the halfwaypoint dip-rise-right-right leading to the back straight would be almost impossible to navigate at speed in a 3000-pound stockcar. If nothing else, it would be a slow-speed bottleneck everytime a handful of cars approaches it. No way, no how, could you make an interesting race in the sims using NR3 stockcars at Mosport. Second, Cascar cars are much lighter, and aren't nearly as fast as a Nascar winston cup car. In other words, the comparison is pointless.

Unfortunately, the owner before Panoz invested little or no money in the track and there for, until this off season and except minor adding of cement walls, the track is the same as it was when it first opened. Its the same asphalt, same pit lane and boxes, there's more run off though. It's a narrow track in GPL and it's a narrow track in real life. For example, going into T-2, from outside to inside, Porsche GT2/3, BMW GT2/3, and the LMP roadster over half way on the grass on drivers left. "halfwaypoint dip-rise-right-right"? It's called a hairpin, and the CASCARs maneuvered through it quiet well. You didn't go to the Canadian Auction Group 250 did you?

First of all the track is alot like today as it appears in GPL. Your right that the track is not wide enough but it has not stopped cars (it has stopped some drivers as you will see) from racing at this great track. That "right-right" your talking about is "Moss corner" and is about the best damn place to sit at Mosport. Lots of action in that off camber corner, breaking as you go up hill. I spoke to David Brabham at the LeMans race during the autograph session and he said its the most exciting track to race on in the series, with little room for mistakes. The very famous Danny Sullivan copped out of the race saying "the track was too small" as well as the BMW team that won 24 hrs LeMans left after the Saturday. J.J. Letho had alot to do with it saying "the track is very dangerous". It is a track that I would love to drive in N3. So if anyone can answer me............ Is Dave Noonan planning on making the GPL>N2 converter! To view some excellent photos of cars that have raced at Mosport from 1977-1999 goto www.zoompics.com you will see a wide range of cars that have tackled this great course over the years..........

: Yup, soon F-1 will come back and everyone will be happy. Can't wait for : the new timing tower to go up. The stairway going to the old one over : the pit boxes was rather frightening. Do you know what's happening with : the Castrol tower? While the improvements to Mosport are rather substantial, judging by the photos, is it enough for FIA approval? Certainly the sight lines are improved, but I still don't think the runoff is adequate at a lot of the corners (for example Moss) to catch a F1 car if things go wrong. Stephen
I agree that the cars are different, but they are "similar". If you go to Deleware or Cayuga or Mosport and sit in the stands, the cars look very much like their NASCAR counterparts as they circle the track. I know that they have less power, less weight, etc. but that only makes sense considering that the largest oval track they run on is 5/8 mile. As for the drivers, there are several very good drivers in CASCAR. I especially like to watch the young guys that I raced with in karting, D.J. Kennington, Brad Graham, Mike Alguire, etc. And of course, local guys (I live in St. Thomas) Pete Vanderwyst and Steve Robblee are no slouches. CASCAR might not be NASCAR but it's the best we've got and late model stock car racing in Canada would be much worse off without it! The guys at the Pits have had Watkins Glen from GPL for almost a year. We ran it for an exibition race during the TPTCC touring car season, which is based on N99. We had a problem with two AI cars trying to enter the pits at the same time or when a car was pitted on the approach ramp just before the right turn into the pits, the cars would hang up and block the pit entrance for many of the users.(not all though!) The track seemed fine during racing conditions. SCGT has Mosport, it has a few differences between the SCGT version and the GPL, but nothing major. One note. SCGT has many many many add- on cars created by private users, including a very good WSC Riley & Scott chassis. Well the R&S is too wide to exit the pit lane if another car is directly in front of it... :) dave henrie
Interesting to whom? Maybe not to you, but certainly interesting to others. Wayne Hutchison

I suspect Panoz isn't really looking to bring F1 back to Mosport right away. He seems to be much more interested in sports car racing at the moment. I'm not sure if the regulations are different for F1 tracks for GT tracks but it's possible. As with any track that runs ASN Canada FIA sanctioned events, any changes/improvements would have to approved by the ASN if he hopes to continue running events there. Given this, I'm sure the changes will meet FIA requirements for the sports car tracks anyway. Wayne Hutchison

We already *have* Watkins Glen in N3. I'm interested in tracks that have not yet been converted - particularly the three I mentioned. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================
Interesting to people who don't think CART/IRL is interesting - because the races are nothing more than parades with few (if any) lead changes. IMHO, finishing a race WELL out of sight of the next (or previous) car is NOT fun, especially if most of the race turned out to be that way. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

What the track is I was referring to is the GPL version of Watkins Glen that is vastly different from the one available in N99 or N3. And it was in reply to the comment that "no-one" has been able to convert gpl tracks to nascar. Of course we know Dave Noonan can... :) I too think Mosport would be an excellant track to run our converted Touring cars on. I have heard that tracks like the Ring and possibly Spa would be difficult to convert because the older Nascar sims can't allow for the terrain elevation changes as great as those in GPL. I once thought that getting N99 tracks converted to ICR2 was impossible but Noonan did that, so I won't make a blanket statement about ANY track being able to be converted.. :) dave henrie
