When does the millennium officially begin? check web site

(& century & decade)
1 January 2001
"We have uniformly rejected all letters and declined all discussion upon the
question of when the present century ends, as it is one of the most absurd
that can engage the public attention, and we are astonished to find it has
been the subject of so much dispute, since it appears plain. The present
century will not terminate till January 1, 1801, unless it can be made out
that 99 are 100... It is a silly, childish discussion, and only exposes the
want of brains of those who maintain a contrary opinion to that we have
stated"
The Times, 26 December 1799
All the experts agree (and have done for centuries) that the millennium
officially starts on 1 January 2001 and NOT on 1 January 2000 as much of the
hype would have you believe. The "last of the millennium" or the "first of
the millennium"
Why?
The millennium officially starts on 1 January 2001. But most people are
regarding 1 January 2000 as a good day to start the party!
Why? - Because there is no year "0" in our calendar system. It started at
1AD; two thousand years on, or two millennia is celebrated in 2001!
BUT... It is on 1 January 2000 that the so called 'millennium bug' takes
effect
Where?
The millennium officially starts at Greenwich, England. But many people are
confused that it doesn't begin at the International Date Line. Each new day
starts at the International Date Line which is 12 hours ahead of GMT. But
it is only a new day in that local time zone.
A Universal Day was created by International Convention in 1884 in
Washington DC, USA. This Universal Day operates to World Time or Universal
Time at Greenwich, England; historically referred to as GMT (Greenwich Mean
Time). It begins at midnight GMT (I.E. 12 noon at the International Date
Line)
When it is midnight Greenwich it is the official start of the new Universal
Day and the whole world can celebrate.
That reference point is midnight at the cross-hairs of the Airy telescope in
the Old Greenwich Observatory in Greenwich, England. It is also the point
of zero longitude; the Prime Meridian of the World also known as the
Greenwich Meridian which can be seen on all modern World Maps.
All time and space on planet earth is measured by 2 reference lines. The
lines of longitude based on the Greenwich Meridian (0 Longitude) and the
Equator (0 Latitude). You can express where you are precisely by your
latitude and longitude and in time by Greenwich Mean Time.

Call me a fool huh? Man, just how ignorant are you? You'll believe
an editor because he sides with your views? Heck, he wrote that just 300
years after folks thought the world was flat and when folks were saying
they'd reached the peak of what could be invented. And you think a 200
year old commentary is going to change the fact that the Gregorian
calendar is made up and didn't come in to existance until the 600's? Yet
you want me to believe that the Millenium is next year? *** man, start
counting at 1BC and 2000 is the Millenium based on, yes, the Gregorian
calendar... who decided we started the millenium count at 1AD? YOU? Time?
Hell, for some reason folks tend to ignore 1BC like "all time" started at
1AD or something. Time has been going on long before any sort of calendar
tried to measure it. So, if the "World" decides to celebrate the
Millenium at 2000, they CAN, there's 1000 years passed at some point,
let's see 1999,1998, 1997, etc. YES, yes, I can count backwards to 1000
years, so yes, 2000 is a Millenium. I know you know that a Millenium is
1000 years, look it up in the encyclopedia or dictionary, its 1000 years,
and neither say its 1000 years starting at 1AD.
And if you use the Common Era calendar (or Solar Calendar) as many
scientific communities use you'll count from 1000 to 1999 as they
adjusted for the missing 0 in the gregorian calendar by aligning 0 to
1BC. SO, celebrate it next year if you want, but a Millenium is 1000
years, period, no matter where you start counting, so start counting at
4AD and have a Millenium party in 2004. Most folks don't know "why" this
is the Millenium, nor do they care, and I don't really care, I just hate
seeing ignorance spewed out based on what you perceive as the truth. They
created this piece of ***called a calendar, and BACK DATED the stupid
thing to try to match the birth of Jesus. The only reason at that time
they didn't use 0 is because they didn't have a 0 in the system to denote
that, so "they" went 1BC to 1AD. If I made up the calendar today, would I
count back to 1BC or would I put a 0 in it? I think a zero would be
there. And last time I checked, not a single one of my calendars said
"based on the Gregorian system". You and many others assume that today we
are basing time measurement on the Gregorian calendar. Says who? Do you
think the Muslim's use the Gregorian calendar? What about Atheists? You
think Atheists are going to believe in "that" calendar when its based on
a CHRISTIAN birthdate?
And for the other moron, Leaky Valve... when they say decade of the 80's
they mean 1980 to 1989... 70's=70 to 78... 90's=90 to 99... so apparently
"they" do start counting at ZERO muther***er. I'd love to see you
convince your elementary class that the Decade of the 80's was 1981 to
1990. Geezus pete are you stupid trying to convince us that we start
counting century's at 1. The 1800's... oh wait, I guess that's 1801 to
1900. HAHAHA! Go crawl back under the rock where you left your brain.
What Rory said is right, the Millenium is next year if you count from
1AD, but you're arguement is stupid and ignorant and doesn't help his
out.
Both of you are seeking to support a futile arguement. The Calendar is
made up, and any sort of time measurement is subjective, so have your
opinion on when you think it is, and let others have their's, but don't
sit around trying to make it out like you're right and they are wrong.
You're both right and you're both wrong, it's all opinion and it'll get
you nowhere, so go party next year and celebrate the Millenium then, and
then celebrate the next year, etc. Open your eyes and see that things are
not black-n-white, they are only shades of grey.
Greg
I'm one of the four hor*** and we have planned the apocalypse for next
year. We had a hell of a time deciding when the millenium was too but we
figured that everyone would be less prepared for it next year as opposed to
this one. So see you all next year!
