Hey Techies, My older CDRW drive has finally died, it was supplied with this DELL and frankly I thought it was too finicky when it was working. Anywho, now it is to be replaced {out of warranty so I can pick my own, and it is NOT my money...}. Kinda want a DVD/CDRW or maybe even a DVD R? HELP !! So, it used to be that Plextor had the good drives. Anyone got a recommendation (or a website with real reviews?). all I know is I want a GOOD one. Thanks...

Make sure you don't get a drive that can only burn one of the formats, as we don't know who is going to win the format war. Sony is more expensive so it might be the GOOD one. :) Sony DRU-510 or something like that. -- Jone Tytlandsvik http://tytlandsvik.no mailto: firstname @ lastname .no

Jone's comment about getting a burner that supports both formats are spot on, however, +/- burners are being released right left and center and there's no need to pay through your nose, MSI had a decent one that's just been released and looks pretty good for the money, the DR4-A, which according to pricewatch can be found for less than 150 in retail packaging with software, comes with Nero I believe Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
Thanks for the help... Unfortunately I had to order this puppy before I got the later reply (George), I was planning on the Pioneer, & I looked at jone's Sony idea, seemed just too dang high. Im am hoping I was able to SKATE through the prices with the NEC 1300. I couldn't justify much over 110 bucks after they started to bug me about "why I though I needed DVD R RW" capabilities... All I could do saw say "future" and that it should burn CD's good. If I had ran to the Wal-Mart I would have plunked down a minimum of 90 for whatever crappy CDRW in stock, or at Office Max, so this should be good enough I hope. About the best drive on the market right now is the Sony DRU-510A. It will record in all formats (CDR, CDRW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, etc...) so you don't have to worry about the format wars. I have the original version, the DRU-500A, and it has worked perfectly. About $299. -Larry "Sting32" <Plowboy is Stingre.AT.y!> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Hey Techies, > > My older CDRW drive has finally died, it was supplied with this DELLand > frankly I thought it was too finicky when it was working. The multi-format burners vary greatly in performance, and some perform better than others (or worse) depending on what format you are dealing with at the time. -Larry "Goy Larsen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

You got the NEC 1300 ? That's a good performer I believe, my brother has one of those, but it's damn picky on what brand of DVD's it will accept, my brother has updated the firmware on his several times already and it's now much better than it used to be Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
