Poll of the best wheel and pedals for GPL

Jazzbo ran an informal vote for the best wheel and pedals under $500 for Grand Prix Legends. The Logitech Wingman Force Feedback led, usually with replacement pedals, followed by TSW, Advantage 1, ECCI CDS4000, Act Labs Force RS and the Microsoft Sidewinder FF. Rob Gerwald of Advantage 1 described plans to expand production and possibly reach the US.

I have the LWFF its a fine wheel but i cant believe the designers or testers approved the pedal travel or springs!!! Seems like they put all their effort in the wheel and rushed the rest, great support drivers etc.. Friend of mine purchased the Interact V4 nice wheel and good pedals doesnt seem to support dos based games without direct input aka GP2 criminal!!!!

I may be mistaken, but isn't the TSW2 the one that will *not* allow you to use separate axes for throttle and brake, thus making it useless for GPL? -- Joeri J. ECCI CDS4000 Monza F1 :-) Ok.. so its 3 times your limit.. but what the heck.. its still the best <G> -Jacob
You are correct, without doing some wiring upgrades it won't allow you to use seperate axis, however why doe it make it useless? Does pretty good for me in GPL. -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends

Thanks for all the votes so far! Hmm, I thought more people would vote for the LWFF, I know the pedals stink, but the wheel isn't too bad when I tried it at a friend's place. The Advantage1 from Downunder seems like a real contender, but I don't believe they are distributed in the States (correct me if I am wrong). You can't beat the new Advantage 1 with standard 4 button configuration, single/dual axis pedal switch and solid steel construction !!! Just wait till we get the sequential shifter happening. It'll blow you away !!!! Rob

With my Nascar Pro, I seem to get MORE brake power with combined axis than with separate.

LWFF is my vote. I made my own custom wheel that I think is about as good as the ECCI ,but after trying force feedback in GPL I would rather use the LWFF. Oh, and yes I will be modifying the wheel and pedals, but for the money ($122.00 at NCBUY.com) the LWFF is a good deal for FF the way it comes. Lutrell

Jerry, The A1 has recently moved its production from Melbourne to Sydney (a distance of about 1000 miles !!!) In Sydney, we have just completed setting up the production facility and are just now getting the first new Advantage 1s off the line. There has been interest in the A1 from the US as well as Europe and we hope to get some wheels over there to you guys !!! We need to source a reliable distributor though. We hope this will happen shortly !!!! Rob

> With my Nascar Pro, I seem to get MORE brake power with combined axis than with separate. Thats because your brake is negating the gas when you have combined axis. So not only are you engaging the brakes your immeadiatley lifting the throttle. With separate axis, you can maintain some throttle or trail brake with both the throttle and brake. dave henrie

LWFF and CH pedals. I haven't tried all the available wheels and pedals on the market, but I love this combo, can't imagine a greater wheel and pedals. Andre

I'd like to add a count for the TSW2. For an extra $15, you can get the dual-axis plug upgrade. I don't care for FF right now. Also, I personally got sick of replacing springs and other parts from plastic wheels that I bought from Best Buy etc...I'm confident my TSW will last a lifetime. Plus it feels 10x more "real". <Dan> ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - For some extra money, check this out: http://www.alladvantage.com/go.asp?refid=fxp816

I don't know about the "best", but I use a homebuilt TSW replica with RRC pedals, love it Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy
Problem being, that post people are only going to buy ONE set of Pedal / Wheel, hence they can only vot for what they've bought (to a greate extent)...so, my vote goes for my only candidate - MSFF...the Pedals are superb...the wheels just a bit..dunno...wierd...!? Doug

I purchased a TSW1 with the single/dual axis pedal switch option already installed ($465 delivered). Fabulous feel and control in GPL. The only thing that would make it better would be force feedback, which isn't likely to happen for a TSW as an upgrade option. Could happen as a new style wheel sometime in the future, though. -Chris- Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Count me as voting for the TSW1 with the single/dual axis switch on the pedals. I may buy a LWFF wheel sometime soon, though, and use the TSW pedals with it so I can have the best of both worlds. :) -Chris- Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

> Problem being, that post people are only going to buy ONE set of > Pedal / > Wheel, hence they can only vot for what they've bought Nearly correct, some people, like myself, may have owned several wheels, and tried others (say at friends houses or in stores?) I have owned a cheap plastic wheel (cannot even remember its name?) which was ***and broke after about 10 minutes. I've also got a Thrustmaster T2, which I've had for about two and a half years and still works flawlessly. And I also have an F1 Sim (formerly known as the GP500) which is an excellent wheel and pedal model. I have also tried the MS Sidewinder FF wheel, and the Saitek R4 FF wheel and the Act Labs FF wheel, all were pretty good, of these I'd probably recommend the MS FF though as it had the best "feel" of the FF wheels. Overall though, the F1 Sim is very hard to beat for pure quality and feel. 8-) *Peter* - http://www.cix.co.uk/~peterpc/home.html [address restored]

I Agree MSFF is a great wheel but what I like might not be what YOU like - you really need to form you own opinion. Go someplace like BEST BUY where they have all the wheels side by side and get a feel for them all. Of you can trust me and the previous poster and get a MSFF. You won't be sorry!
