NL Superbirds aren't Superbirds

14 posts by 11 people · 13 Nov 1999 - 16 Nov 1999

Superbirds in NASCAR Legends aren't Plymouth Superbirds...They are Dodge Charger Daytonas. Is anyone else out there extremely ticked off that Papy had the audacity to think that we were stupid enough to accept that just because they called it a Plymouth Superbird it was one? Papy just copied their Charger Daytonas (and short track Chargers) and then called them Superbirds and Roadrunners (short track). I'm sorry, but putting a Plymouth logo on the bottom of the driver screen does NOT turn a Dodge Charger Daytona into a Plymouth Superbird. Look at all the screen photo shots of Richard Petty's Superbird in the opening sequence and then compare those to what is being called a Superbird in the game. The major problems are the use of the Charger hood and the "scallops" behind the front wheel wells on each side panel (shouldn't be on a Superbird/Roadrunner) and the lack of the Superbird/Roadrunner's side "scoop" which is located behind the door and just in front of the rear wheel wells on each side panel. The rear panel also has the Charger's round taillights instead of the Roadrunner/Superbirds very oblong, almost obelisk shaped taillights. Until these changes are made, the cars don't even remotely resemble Superbirds and Roadrunners. Come on Papy...put a little effort into it will ya!!! If this was a $15-$20 expansion pack for NASCAR 3, then maybe I could live with it. But for a $55.00 game forget it. The cars have to be right!! On second thought, they would have to be right even if it was an expansion pack. Some of were around when these cars debuted...too bad your graphics people weren't.
Give it a break, I think they did a great job. You need to go race all those other racing games based on the late 60's and early 70's Stock Cars instead. -- Kevin Anderson --------------------------------------------------- DK-Racing #15 K_Anderson ------------------------------------------------- http://www.awtech.net/ http://www.nascar-3.com/ Roadrunner/Superbirds

Uhhhh, no. If you don't like the nameplates on the dashboard, edit the 3do files and remove them. Cool opening sequence. you can fix these yourself by re-painting the cars a little. Yeah they do. Soi, I guess this means you'll be returning the game to the store and won't be bothering us anymore, right? You mean "right" like the cars in N3 that were all painted with the same front grills/headlights? Make up your mind - you've completely eliminated the power of your rant by chganging your pointed little mind. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

Well, at least I know you aren't. I guess you accept incompetence, mediocracy, and ineptitude. It's not a matter of changing nameplates. If guys like Petty and Hamilton drove Superbirds and Roadrunners, then give me cars that look like Superbirds and Roadrunners. Don't give me Charger Daytonas and Chargers and then call them Plymouths for the drivers that drove Plymouths and expect me to accept it. Yes it is. Why should I have to? Papy should have got it right to start with. It's not like painting the cars correctly was as hard as say, programming double file restarts. NO THEY DON'T. Obviously you have never seen a real '70 Roadrunner and a '70 Charger parked together. You are definitely not a MOPAR fan. No, I'll be keeping the game. Sorry, but I didn't realize my post was bothering you. I'm sure there are some others out there who agree with me. Can't comment on N3 because I don't own it and I don't plan on buying it. N3 will the first game from Papy that I have NOT purchased. I have bought everything since the original Indy 500 game to include all track and expansion packs. The release of N3 and NASCAR Legends as separate games is a money grabbing move. They should have released one game, with the car sets and tracks from the other game as an expansion pack. No, I was attempting to show even further displeasure by indicating it wouldn't fly even for an expansion pack.
You're wasting your time with this guy. Everybody that's seen both a Dodge Charger and Plymouth Superbird knows there are subtle differences between the two, but they *do in fact* resemble each other (they have the same basic front end treatment and the wing in the back). One last thing - a better comparison would have been between the Firebird and the Camaro from 1969 or 1970. In either case, the Charger/Superbird used the same basic body as did the Camaro/Firebird. This guy's a moron who is playing semantics games and can't be reasoned with. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

Think about this then, N1/N2/N99/N3/CTS all used one body style. I guess we should be happy they got more than one body 3do squeezed in NL. But I don't think I remember too many folks complaining because the Pontiac was really a Ford/Chevy hybrid. There already are 3do updates available from the US Pits. Try those out and perhaps some 3rd party paint jobs. dave henrie (driver of the 99b Dodge Stratus TPTCC Super Tourer)

When I first got the sim, I noticed the same thing. In my opinion, the Superbird just didnt look right. But......instead of complaing about it, I just made my own template and painted my own car how I thought it should look. In the time it took you to post here, you could have taken out the body lines on the hood and doors and put in the scallop on the rear quarters. Papy made it easy enough for us to do. Kevin DeBello
