GPL and ATI Rage

3 posts by 3 people · 13 Nov 1999 - 14 Nov 1999

I'm thinking of purchasing GPL, but I would like to know if it would run in 3d mode with my 8 mb ATI rage card, or would I only be able to run in software mode. The reason I ask is that I can't run Nascar 3 in 3d mode, and I was wondering if GPL is the same.... Dave

Same as NASCAR 3 then. You won't be able to run in 3d mode..Just software only. (I have the same card and ended up buying 12mb Voodoo 2)

GPL natively supports 3dfx and Rendition verite cards. There is a beta (beta for ever it would appear) OpenGL patch which allows use with TNT/TNT2 cards, but has major performance problems drawing the wing mirrors. (Most TNT users have to set the mirrors to draw only every 2nd or 3rd frame in order to be playable. I haven't heard of anyone running totally successfully in OpenGL on any other card, so you'd be stuck with software I'm afraid.... Mike.
