Hi, wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a Guillemot Race Leader FF wheel, with a SERIAL connector. As my other wheel broke I want to use this one, but in WinXP - which would require a USB connector. Fortunately, I found on Google that others have successfully been able to do a wiring hack (see article below). My problem is that when I cut the serial-connector wire that goes to the steering wheel, the wires I found inside were: White, Green, Yellow, Orange. I was hoping to find White, Green, Red, Black! I've tried various configurations but can't get my wheel detected in Windows, using the USB driver for the wheel. I'm assuming white goes to white, green goes to green? Help! Thank, Ross (original newsgroup post from Sept/02, found on Google below): ---------- One very kind Tony_h (whose post was back in Jan!) answered my USB hack query - with a successful outcome. The PCB within the housing has a vacant USB connection area (J5). In a nutshell, it's just a simple job of taking a standard USB extension cable, stripping one end off, and soldering it in place with the following pin counts : 1 Red 2 White 3 Green 4 Black The serial cable was removed (a tidy plug/socket job made that easy) so that the USB cable exited the unit without any further holes. Plugged it in, XP detected a new device, installed the most recent drivers (GI_RLFFBWheel98ME2KXP_2514.exe), and away it went. Even got split axis for throttle/brake. --------
I also searched the net for this one, and i've succesfully converted my racing wheel to usb, just take one usb extension cable and stick it into the pcb. you have to open the wheel for this, and once you open it, u can clearly see 4 soldering holes with USB name beside it. just put the right color into the right hole, and you're set! its that easy :) this page was forwarded by someone in that forum where u get that translation from, its in germany but it has pictures to describe what you should do http://www.guertlermeister.de/UmbauRaceLeaderFFB.pdf hope im not too late :)
