GPL: Where's the Castle?

Finding the castle at the Nurburgring in GPL

Steve Ferguson asked where the castle is visible at the Nurburgring in GPL. Others said the ruin is to the right of the final long straight and shared screenshots and a camera file to see it. The thread led to plans for a group trip to drive the real Nordschleife.

Or perhaps I should say Schloss. I've turned several laps at the 'Ring now, but I've yet to see the castle. Perhaps I am not concentrating enough on the scenery, but the Ferrari is a bit of a handful. Can someone let me know in which section I should pay attention, and to which side of the road? By the way, after reviewing the little mpg people mentioned last week (in-car footage from a 60's vintage F2) I am quite impressed with Papy's work. Another thing from someone who is still relative to the 'Ring. It's very easy to spin in some sections, and lose the orientation for direction. I've driven over a kilometer in the wrong direction, thinking "something is really wrong here" until either the weird clipping gives it away, or I go vaulting off a hill that wasn't there on the last lap! What a great track. Wish I could crack the 9:00 mark. Stephen

<snip> Hi Steve The castle is on the right hand side at the end of the long straight, Here's a link to a view looking back down the straight from on top of the castle. http://home.sol.no/~espenm3/pictures_t11_Anteniusbuche.html What a great Hehe, I thought the same thing several months ago, but i'm now running sub 8:20's. Just keep practicing, the first 50 laps are the hardest !<g> Cheers Phil
It's somewhere to the right (and up!! One hell of a climb on foot!) of the section between St. Antoniusbuche and Tiergarten, but I don't know if you can see it from the track. We didn't go for a lap of the track as my mum thought it too dangerous because of the motorbikes. I regret that to this day, but I was too young to impose my will in this matter. Don't remember seeing it in GPL either BTW. Jan. ---- <snip>
If I remember correctly, the castle is on the right side, at the long straight at the end of the track. But the bushes are in the way to see it from in-car view, try to watch a replay from some different angles... Good luck beating the 9:00 mark, first time I succeeded in this, it gave me a great thrill! Now I'm stuck at 8:41... What was the record again: 7:57 or something like that? AAARRRRGHHHH!!!! Andre
I had read somewhere that Papyrus did put it in. Knowing them, they would do that, and the only time you see it is if you vault over the hedges by accident. Here's a screenshot where you can see it (to the right in the pic): http://gpl.gamestats.com/amtracks/nurburgring/nurb9.jpg As others have pointed out it's to the right when going down the final long straight. -- Arne Martin
There are hedges on both sides, but if you keep left all the way, you should get a glimpse of it from***pit view.. In fact I think it is easier to get a glimpse of it than beating the world record (7:57)... ---A---

I feel like I have seen it on a different part of the track too (not just the back straight). Or a castle of some sort.

:>> Or perhaps I should say Schloss. : The proper german term would be "Burgruine" (ruined fortress). Hey... I learn something new every day! The part of Switzerland I am working in right now is full of old ruins. Now I can correctly identify them. (And I am not being sarcastic - it is nice to pick up new words from all sources). Besides the castle on the long straight, there is another white castle like fortification. It is hard for me to explain where it is since I dont know any of the corners, but the best I can describe it is to the left when you go over a small bridge thingy I am guessing. It is a tight left hand turn with white bariers on either side. Just imagine that you are making your way through the tight track surrounded by bushes on either side. You know the one, with the tight chicanes so to speak. Well, the castle is to the left of the second left hand turn after the series of esses surrounded by the bushes. Hop[e that helps, though it probably doesnt. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!

I have a shot here taken a one of the pre-war german GPs...it shows an Auto Union in the North Curve and, in the background, the castle. So it should be blatantly obvious at that point in the sim. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- > Here's a screenshot where you can see it (to the right in the pic): > http://gpl.gamestats.com/amtracks/nurburgring/nurb9.jpg > As others have pointed out it's to the right when going down the final > long straight. > -- > Arne Martin -----------== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News ==---------- http://www.newsfeeds.com The Largest Usenet Servers in the World! ------== Over 73,000 Newsgroups - Including Dedicated Binaries Servers ==-----

Maybe it's the pic but if this is a hotel it's tini small one and if it's suppose to be a castle it's the smallest I've ever seen! What is it really?? well, i have this idea about first get myself a new car (my 21 year old Volvo doesn't do much on the german Autobahn :) and then have a trip around europe to look at old F1-tracks, the ring, spa, zandy and so on. To top it off with the 24h LeMans race would be terrific too :) -- Olav K. Malmin remove spam when replying

It's not that small, adenau is only a small town remember, could maybe an in or a large house? I have created a cam file that allows you to see the castle from the long straight at Doettinger Hoehe. Let me know if I should mail it to you. You *should* also be able to see the castle BIG in front of you at the Nordkurve, but Papyrus strangely didn't put it in there!! Cheers, -Thorsten Rueter Jan Verschueren schrieb:
