Let's just remind ourselves of how unfinished GP2 was. 1) Enormous executable file, suggesting much data is written in there intended as a temporary measure while code was debugged before being written into files unique to each track as with the .dat files. This suggests a beta was released. 2) The sound file has pit crew voices, which weren't implemented in the game. 3) The manual makes references to wet weather driving and a lot of other things that weren't featured in the game. Added to that, GP2 was modelled to run in 2d at an absolute maximum of 25fps. 3d modelling, 3d***pit, superduper framerate etc should really give a great feel of driving a racing car; in fact one of the good things about GP2 at the time it was released was its feel. The screenshots of monaco show the hills in the background, so background landscaping is there this time. That will make a great difference I suspect. Throw in rain and even if GP3 *is* just a completed GP2 with great graphics it'll suit me fine. Hopefully the file formats will be cracked quickly so it'll soon end up as adjustable as GP2. Oh, and with adjustable driver aids it'll ship another million and updates will be released regularly. -joe-

the gp2 manual was almost a carbon copy of the original gp manual (albeit with some new pictures and one or two extras) GP3 is good (it was at ects), my hopes are high. pez
Have you seen the pics of the***pit? They're 2d. The same as they are in GP2. I personally not going to buy that game until comes up to par with GPL. Its real to bad, four years and all he (Geoff Crammond) has to show is 3d support. He should take several more years to include at least the ***pit. We've waited this long, it wouldn't heart that much.

You will not buy gp3 cause there is no 3D***pit? LOL This is hilarious !

looked like a 3ed***pit to me. Infact a direct comparison of GP3 and GP3 ***pit screenshots shows the remarkable difference. I think your seriously confused Bazza

Shaun has a point you know. Geoff has been working on this game for years and from what I've read there is no MAJOR difference between GP2 and GP3. Quite honestly the screenshots I've seen don't look that impressive (yes I know 3d support isn't added yet) or that acurate which I feel is essential for a sim. Honestly Geoff hasn't sold me yet, to me GP3 looks like GP2 dazzled up. Also I've heard that his black flag method is still in that beta at ECTS, hopefully he will change this as well because I can't stand his method. I'd rather have 10 stop go's if I cut a corner than have a crappy black flag waving on the top of my screen. So far GP3 hasn't got me e***d (and I loved GP2), but hell there's still a while to go till the release date, hopefully Geoff will suprise me and fix this mess up. Dan

If you're that hard to please you might have to wait a few years before you buy any new sims. And, I have to assume, you are referring to the wonderful physics model. The state of the (deployed) art for graphics, etc., has already marched a long way past GPL. Maybe if you and people who feel the same don't buy the game I can get it off backorder a bit sooner..... You do not know what the release version is going to look like. If you have waited this long it won't hurt to wait just a few more months before accusing Geoff of being a slacker..... Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Yup, you're damn right..... pity people are bad mouthing something that we have seen very little about and what we have seen is ALL positive. I also hope the files will be cracked soon, it shouldn't be too hard since its based on GP2 allot but with a more complete look to this version then allot might be encoded or in a different format....... Anyway, our GP2 geniuses won't let us down:-)

The***pit IS 3d. You can't make a truly 3d view on a PC, all you can do is make it virtual and thats what Geoff has done. The***pits are supposed to move like GPL and the wheel turns, with a *PROPER* view of the gauges...not some little tiny, hard to make out circles tha the crappy manual doesn't even tell you about...or anything else for that matter. Anyway, GP2 with the addition of 3D support is much better than GPL in my opinion, GP3 has other features too meaning GPL is old news boys.....quit trying to resurrect it.

All i'm saying is that it looks the exact same as GP2 with a different lay out. About the moving wheels, CPR had them too, but its sure as hell wasn't a gift from the sim racing gods. The '3d'***pit... I don't know what your definition of one is, but mine is defined by GPL and the new rally champ game. The***pit view is the same as an exterior view but with the viewing point moved to where the driver head is. GPL, the wheels and arms are moving the EXACT same from every view. RC, the camera actually scrolls from view to view absolutely proving that it is my perception of a '3d'***pit. Any hew, please let Geoff prove me wrong, i'm in need of a GPL comparable physics engine for a recant F-1 season.

: Yup, you're damn right..... pity people are bad mouthing something that we : have seen very little about and what we have seen is ALL positive. My only concern is that modern F1 cars will be no fun to drive after GPl. This is a matter of opinion, of course, but I went back to GP2 after lots of GPL driving, and I found it way too easy, and lifeless. Perhaps this is because the modern F1 cars *are* lifeless, and somehow easier to drive at 9/10, only becoming difficult once you flirt with their very narrow error margin. Even the sports cars in SCGT feel more lively and active than the modern F1 cars. Stephen
