....but I always get the answer here!!! I shall buy a new system and I saw that Gateway got a Intel 820 chipset, whats the difference to Intel 440???? Is it worth the extra money????

The 820 is Intel's latest chipset. It is for use with the next gen PIII cpu's that are smaller & faster. Also it will allow the use of RAMBUS memory that will enable bus speeds of 133mhz and higher, SD ram is pretty well maxed out near 100mhz. (mhz?? hz??) If you are planning on upgrading your motherboard, memory and 4x AGP video, then you might want the 820 chipset. But...I'd really be suprised if you ordered the new chipset that you would get immeadiate shipment. Intel has delayed and delayed the release of the 820 and I've heard some problems are also comming from Rambus memory modules. If you can hold off purchasing a system til early next year, the picture might be clearer. Plus the new cards from Nvidia and 3dfx should be out that would support 4xAGP. To correct you just a bit,SDram is not topped out at 100mhz its also being made at 133mhz as well now.The rambus ram is suppose to allow you to do things like burn a cd while performing other tasks but mags that have tested equal systems using the 440,820,and the New Via chipset and have seen little improvement over SDram and at this point its not really worth the premium price you'll pay.I'm also looking at a new system and have been researching this thing big time and right now I'm leaning towards the Micron 733 with the Via chip and 133mhz SDram.Just haven't completely made up my mind yet:) Mark
