Hiya Guys,
We have just added the Dirt Track Racing Intro Movie to the site. This is
the intro movie of the full version of the game and has been compressed.
It's only 2.06MB to download, so download it now from
http://www.simracingnews.com/downloads/dtr/dtrintro.zip
John Bodin: "The DTR intro is a very cool mix of real dirt track video and
actual in-game shots from various camera angles and a neat, fast-paced
soundtrack. The movie gives you a good feel of what the game is going to be
like -- much better than the screen shots themselves. I think you will like
this one."
Enjoy!

Wow, do they REALLY race figure-eight courses like that one they show for a
second in the video? Isn't that...well...psychotically suicidal? Or is that
a novelty feature of the game?

Doug :)
Yes they do in fact have figure 8 races all around the states. There is
also a figure-8 series in the game too. And yes, it is a bit
psychotically suicidal.

But unlike
the video clip, we do not race figure eights larger than 1/4 - 1/3 of a
mile. (What is that in meters? I don't know. We don't use the metric system
here either. But HEY! We liberated Europe....back off! um.... sorry for
that...)
So the video is a little misleading. But the game looks fun.
I'm pissed that I have found the game in just about every wArEz site, but I
will not download it. I just want to know which Beta Tester leaked the game.

"People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise
how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."
OK, already! Obviously a race format you enjoy. :)
It was something I hadn't heard of before, and I suppose this time I was too
lazy to look it up for myself. Since this is one of my usenet pet peeves, I
really should have been more diligent. My apologies.
<can of worms>
As for it being a demo-derby, I never claimed anything of the sort (ok,
maybe I sort of implied it...I retract my implication, then). I don't know
enough about it to claim much of ANYTHING, although I WILL suggest that one
of the direct consequences of a figure-eight configuration is an increase in
the chance of collisions.
</can of worms>
Mind you, I can see a few of benefits to a figure-eight configuration as
well, such as the fact that you can put a track with both left- and
right-hand turns in a reasonably small area. (oh great, now I'm gonna have
all the oval fans on my case as well!) :)
I DO have to stand by my personal opinion that racing on a track which
crosses itself twice each lap is a bit nuts from where I'm sitting, though.
:)
Since there are so many stupid flame wars started over 'opinions', I'll go
through the usual disclaimer here: this opinion is MINE, and not anyone
else's. I recognize your right to have YOUR own opinion, which may or may
not coincide with mine. This disclaimer void where prohibited by law. By
reading this disclaimer, you have agreed to be bound by the terms and
conditions contained herein, in perpetuity throughout the universe. Use no
hooks. Do not spindle.
I have no doubt there are many skilled drivers racing these events (as there
are in any autosport event). If you enjoy racing or viewing figure-eight
races, then have a blast! I believe that a diverse spectrum of flourishing
motorsports can only help them all to improve and thrive.

Doug :)
Actually, Doug, believe it or not, I really don't care for figure-8
events, and that's my least favorite portion of DTR. <G>
I am, however, the keeper of the truth, and DTR is a good enough title
that I'd hate for people to label it as an "arcade," "fantasy," or
"smash-up derby" sort of game just because it also features figure-8
tracks. Like I said, figure-8 racing is a valid form of racing in the
real-world.
I have to agree with you, though -- racing on a track which crosses
itself twice each lap is a bit nuts from where I'm sitting, too, but
tht doesn't change the fact that figure-8's are every bit as valid as
oval, road, and street courses.
