GPL - Unable to Initialize Replay System

7 posts by 4 people · 28 Oct 1999 - 29 Oct 1999

Ok, GPL guru's, what's the problem here? I have plenty of disk space and a lot of RAM, running a Voodoo3 3000 and SBLive with the 1.1.0.3 patch. When I select a track to enter, no matter which one, I get an error that says "unable to initialize replay system", I press ok, and get "exiting race weekend", press ok, and I'm back to the track selection screen. Ideas? Respond via this newsgroup as email will not work. TIA!!! Rich
I had this once with only the Nurburgring, figured it was a disk space or RAM problem cos when I upgraded my computer the problem disappeared. -- Mike Buckley Cotswold Pig Development Co Ltd Tel: +44 (0) 1472 371591 Fax: +44 (0) 1472 371208 http://www.toastyhamster.freeserve.co.uk

I have the same problem with my new machine. Posted here and at the APEX GPL forum a few weeks ago and didn't get any real tips. Wrote Sierra support and they mentioned that they had never seen it before and to uninstall, reinstall, etc. My machine that has the problem is a P3 500, 19GB, 756MB RAM, TNT2 Ultra running Win98. I get the error in software mode and OpenGL mode. Plenty of disk space on GPL drive (2GB). How much RAM do you have? I was thinking that somehow the large amount of RAM I have throws GPL off. Where does GPL write the replays? Let me know if you come up with anything! jb
Jeffrey, I think I know our problem... you have 756M RAM, and I have 768M... I think this has something to do with GPL initializing the replay BUFFER system. I too wrote Sierra and they tried convincing me its my screen resolution size. Heh, NOT. I haven't tested this yet, but I bet if I drop my memory down to 256 that it'll work fine on this system. Don't change a thing in the machine, but try dropping you memory down to 256M and see if it works, I'll drop my to 512M tonight when I get home and I'll see if it works. Then, let's post our results here. Then, maybe some GPL .INI guru can tell us of an option in the .INI to control the replay buffer size. I bet if there were such an option, and we told GPL to only use 128M or so for replay, that it would work too. <g> Rich

Guys... Try adding the following to your core.ini: [ Replay ] replayMemoryOverride = 65535 That should force GPL to use 64MB for its replay buffer. Trips
