OT: Jackie Stewart laps the Ring

Search for an in-car Nordschleife clip narrated by Jackie Stewart

Michael asked about the source of an MPEG clip that he believed showed Jackie Stewart commentating on an in-car lap of the old Nurburgring. Others shared links and pointed to the Hubert Hahne BMW footage in Castrol's film Ringmasters. Stefan Magnusson later identified the car in the clip as Howden Ganley's 1973 Iso-Marlboro.

I've got a short MPEG clip from a website of Jackie Stewart commentating on an in-car film from the old Nurburgring, must be 1974-75ish. It looks awesome, but does anyone know if this is part of a longer video of the full lap? And is it available from anywhere? I'd love to add it to my collection of Nurburgring videos. Thanks, - Michael
Yes, please share this! // Johan > Where....?? Share it with us.....!!!! > leesee
Is that the movie in which you see a part of the Ring from the driver's view, with another car in front? And that Austin Powers music in the background? If that's the movie your referring to, I believe it's from a video call 'The history of motor racing', available at Duke. Andre

Just downloaded the movie at http://members.home.net/f1gallery/movies.html. We weren't talking about the same movie, don't know from which tape this video is from. Andre

Do you mean bergwerk.zip at the bottom of: http://www.boers.com/In-Car.htm ?? It's Hubert Hahne in his F2 BMW. Please correct me if I'm wrong! ;-) Greetings Klaus

says... That's the one - good isn't it? JS certainly talks as though he's commentating on a full lap. I like the bit about not being able to transfer his foot from throttle to brake as he went through the compression at the bottom of Fuchsrohre:-) - Michael
You sure about that, Klaus? Looks vaguely like Austin in his E-type!

Just to add my 2 pennyworth, the video of Hahne in the BMW is from 'Ringmasters'. It's a great little movie made by Castrol about the '67 German GP - essential viewing for all GPL fans. You can get it at Duke video.

I remember seeing Ringmasters on Speedvision once. I think it was before GPL came out but being the classic racing buff that I am, i watched it anyway. Too bad i didnt tape it; i really would like to see it again. Chris PS- Note to anyone with Spirit of Speed fever: check SPV for the "Silver Arrows from Zwickau" program they ran several times this summer. All about the old Auto Union team...VERY fascinating program.

In case someone wonders ... The stewart.mov clip, found at http://members.home.net/f1gallery/movies.html, shows New Zealander Howden Ganley in an ISO Marlboro IR01, entered by Frank Williams in the 1973 World Championship. Stefan

says... Thanks for the info - I assumed it was Stewart driving! Do you the original source of the material, i.e. what film it was from? - Michael
Sorry, I have no idea where the clip originates from. Perhaps a Ford promotion film since the Iso had a DFV in the rear and JYS was and still is a Ford man. Maybe an attempt to make somthing like the "Nine Days in Summer" film from 1967. Marlboro could also be involved I guess. Stefan
