I'm hoping someone can help me out because I need a GTR fix! First my
system setup:
P4 2.5 Ghz
512 meg RAM
GeForce3 Ti 200 64 meg
WinXP Pro
DirectX 9
SB Live 5.1
OK, F1 2002 plays just fine -- no problems at all. I installed GTR2002
and when I try to run it, I immediately get a window that says
"Unexpected error; quitting." That's it. I searched the forum and found
that someone suggested searching for COMCTL32.OCX and COMDLG32.OCX and
replacing them with the ones from the system folder. Well, neither of
those files lives in my F1 2k2 directory anywhere.
Somebody HELP please! I need to play GTR! On my old machine with DirectX
8.1 I had no problems. This is a new PC with DX 9 -- could that be the
issue?
Thanks in advance
Todd

My system is very similar to yours except that I only have a 1.8 Ghz CPU, a
GF3 Ti 500 and an Audigy. GTR used to run just fine on it with no problems.
Try turning off the sound and see if the game runs. Some games don't get
along with the SB Live series of cards and if I remember correctly
especially under Win XP.
If the game runs then try that old standby - the latest drivers.
Sorry I can't be of more help because that mod is worth the effort.
Elrikk
PS I just remembered that you have to make sure that the video part of the
.ini file for the mod is the same as that in the config.ini for the main
game.
The block should have these parameters but not necessarily these values.

play it, I got the "Unexpected Error" message. What I did was starting the
game with the "GT2002lite.exe" file and everything's ok. Running this file
will skip the intro video.
Hope this helps.

Should the lite executable be there as part of the standard install, cuz
I don't have it. If not, where can I get it? Or are there switches that
I can use with the regular executable to tell it not to run the intro?
Thanks for the help!

have you patched gtr to version 1.2? you should have gtrlite.exe and
gtrrun.exe available.

I may be wrong when I said that the file GTRACING2002.EXE came with
the standard install. After I installed GT2002, I immediately installed the
1.2 patch, so I was not sure. Perhaps, you should install the "GT2002
patch12".

Well I don't know if I am making any progress but at least now I've got
something different. After installing the 1.2 patch, I still get the
same error trying to run the main executable. If I run the lite version
though, it opens up a window (looks to be about 800x600,) that's black
and the cursor changes to the "2002" cursor, then it just sits there...

What version of Windows Media player do you have? I believe they
designed the opening video to work with the latest version of MP. So ifyou
have an older non-updated Media Player that may be holding you up.
I too gave you the wrong file name..there should be two additional exe
files...gtr2002lite.exe and gtr2002run.exe. Try the latter as well.

Alright! Now we're getting somewhere. The gtrun.exe works great. I just
have one problem left now. When I go to the "select car" screen, I see
no car models -- just the "frame" around the screen if you will. I can
click the invisible cars and select one because I am familiar with what
the screen is supposed to look like, but why might I not be seeing the
cars themselves? I don't see the vertical scroll slider either.
Dave, thanks a MILLION for all your help. If I can get this last problem
solved, I'll be back in GTR bliss!
Thanks
Todd

if you are not seeing cars on the selection screen then you probably
have a mislaid sound or car file.
Verify that all the cars are properly in the GTR2002season\vehicles
folder. You may want to try a carset manager to verify that all your
cars are active.

Thanks Dave. I'll try that tomorrow. Gotta get some sleep now :-)
