Isn't there some talented person who can find a way to disable the 10/1
expiration on the GPL 1.2 patch? Man, I don't want to build another GPL
plus add-ons again if I can help it.

I'm sure someone could hack the patch. You talked about installing a fresh
install of GPL and I figured setting back the date would be much easier.
Alision has a feeling the real patch could be out in a couple weeks. Until
then just set the clock back and enjoy 1.2 until the official version comes
out. If installing the new version doesn't install, copying your 1.0 gpl.exe
file from the CD should make it work.
Jason.

Consider me someone. If you have no respect for the
the executable, don't like to wait, and don't want to
mess with your system clock open gpl.exe in the hex
editor of your choice and change the bytes at location
0x0000B16D from 0x7F04 to 0x7C04. For reference
the preceeding bytes are 0x83F909, i.e compare
register blah against 9, we change jump if greater
than to jump if less than, so GPL 1.2.0.0 will now
run on a machine with the month set to October or
beyond. A little disassembly goes a long way. :-)
Note this is for the U.S. 1.2 patch only, the German
patch probably differs although a similar search
will probably yield similar results.

First of all, many thanks...
But for the benefit of those of us who don't really know what you're
talking about...
Would it be possible for one of you to post the "hacked file(s)" somewhere
so we can download it and play 1.2 in spite of being programming-challenged?
What you describe is probably the simplest thing in the world, but I for one
just don't feel so sure than I'm not gonna***something up!
BTW...is the patch still available somewhere?

It was truly my pleasure. Also, for those GPLers out there
that don't have a hex editor and/or don't want to play
around with the GPL executable I have submitted the
time cracked version of the patch to:
http://www.the-fastlane.com
It should show up sometime later in the day.
- George
Yes, it's possible.
Please don't consider me a hacker, but I don't like to set the date of my
system back and I still want to test the new patch.
Here is what you have to do:
with an Hex editor goto offset ACD6 in gpl.exe (US version) and change 74
to EB.
On my computer all works fine (I tested it for 1 hour without any problem).
Anyway any problems or incidents that may occur when you make these
modification are not my reponsibility.

Man, I don't want to build anotherThis does not work!!! I tried it. Had to go with a new install.
. If installing the new version doesn't install, copying your 1.0 gpl.exe
