Well, my hopes of the Norton fixing it turned out to be false. Still rebooting, even deleted norton to test. No, go I now feel pretty sure it is something to do with this ASUS P4C800 MB, I had an Intel D875 before it and never had these problems, everything else is the same. have the latest bios. Anyone else have the same or simular or no problems with this ASUS board?
I run the P4C800 Deluxe/P4-2.6/800 9700Pro great. Not saying *YOUR* mobo isnt the problem though. QC aint what it used to be ya know ;) I havent been following to close but did you do a clean re-install of XP latest drivers and then try NR2003? What about heat issues? Power supply? Memory? Do you have the ability to swap out any components with another box? I haven't been following all that close myself so I'll toss this one in. Like Mitch mentioned, it sounds similar to the heat issues some were having with 3dfx cards and GPL. The best way to test if it was heat was to pull the covers off the computer and see if it still rebooted. I'm pretty sure that test would apply in this case. If you can run with the covers off and not have it reboot then your card is overheating and crashing your computer. An extra fan will fix that. If you haven't done so yet, install ASUS Probe. It's very handy to detect heat issues. I had the same problem with Unreal 2. Crashed the PC after a few minutes of play. It turned out to be heat (temps over 70C in the CPU). Had to use change the Intel Heatsink & Fan for a better one. Joo Gonzalez

When you say 'deleted' - did you delete the directory, or actually uninstall Norton? It could be heat, of course, but are you positively sure nothing related to that Antivirus thing is still loaded? Because I think I read about one of these AV things that was still running, or some modules of it, although it had either been disabled or uninstalled, I forget which. If you've deinstalled it, use a process viewer to check what's loaded. Other processes than the AV might have a similar effect btw. When I'm racing, I have only 6 processes running (plus the game). That's in WinME. Every additional process can cause probs. Especially things that keep polling or checking something. You might also want to read: http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSguides.htm Select a guide for the OS you're using, and read it. If you're running XP or 2K, especially the Services Configuration guides may be helpful. Achim
yes, i've tried taking the cover off and even pointing a fan at it. "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Just a shot in the dark here, but I had a series of problems with my XP box. GPL would CTD, as would FS 2000. Other stuff seemed to work OK. I switched video cards (from a GeForce3 to an old TNT2 Ultra) and things seemed to be better. But not perfect. Variouis diagnostic programs reported various video errors with both cards. In the end, it turned out to be XP updates that were the root of the problem. Things worked before the updates; didn't work after. (Of course, I had done a bunch of other work onthe computer after being away for several weeks, and I didn't get around to playing GPL until it was too late to do a recovery back to a pre-update version of the OS.) Eventually, MS released some more updates that seem to have fixed the problem. My GeForce3 card is now reinstalled and I am a happy camper playing GPL, F1C, FS and several of the mods. You might want to check with the MS web site and see that you have all the latest updates, drivers, etc. HTH, -- Darryl

I have an Asus motherboard (p4pe) & had rebooting problems with NR2003 also. It was the onboard sound. I disabled it in the bios & added a Turtle Beach sound card. The problem was solved. Anyway, if you want to find out if it is a software problem, go to start, settings, control panel, system, advanced tab, startup and recovery settings. Uncheck "Automatically Restart". Now the computer will stop at the blue screen. This will let you see which process caused the reboot. I have XP pro & this is how I found my problem. I hope this helps. Rick

How big a PS are you using? If you have a 300W it probably isn't getting juice enough to the video card. Pete "mjones53" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > yes, i've tried taking the cover off and even pointing a fan at it.
As Rick stated here, it is an onboard sound problem. I have the P4C800 Deluxe with the 2.8 P4 and had problems until I turned the hardware acceleration down a notch on the sound. Once I did that, it has worked flawlessly since then. Go to the Sierra support site (http://techsupport.vuinteractive.com/techsupport/sierra/support.asp) and type "sound" in the keyword. You will get the complete run down on what to do. For the short version... From the Windows Desktop: -Click START, RUN, and type Dxdiag. -Click Okay and wait for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to appear. Click on the Sound tab and click the Full Acceleration slider back one notch. This should fix it if your problem is the same as mine. no, it was nothing to do with the sound. I had the onboard off with the Audigy, and had tried turning it down, nothing would help.
