Anyone knows what the Fast steer key in the game Driver does? It doesn't do
360 spin??? I tried it a lot, but I can' get further than about 180 degrees.
And how do you perform the Brake test? And the Speed test? And how do you do
a backwards 180 spin? Am I mistaken or is this a difficult game??????? Even
during some simple chase games, I never beat the computer. And that's at
easy level...

Driver controls: fast steer, burnouts and analog pedals
A player asked what the fast-steer key did in Driver and how to pass the opening garage tests. Others explained using the burnout and fast-steer keys for 360s and reverse 180s. Posters then disagreed over whether the throttle in the PC game was analog or digital, with results that seemed to differ by setup.
Automated summary.
There is a key that you can set up called Burn Out. I forget what the
default is. You press it from a standing start and the tires spin and smoke.
If you put the brakes on you just sit there burning *** (you might drift
forward a little). If you turn all the way in one direction you can do
donuts to your hearts content. Go to the control setup and see what it's set
for. I use the left control key myself. I didn't like the default key. Note
that I found this out after I switched to a faster car (number 4), but I'm
sure the other ones can burn out too.

...I figured it out already. 360's are (indeed) a breeze with the burnout
key. And backwards 180's are so easy using the fast steer key... And the
brake and speed test are so self explanatory... I wonder what I was doing
:-) Still, after passing the first test (it tooks a lot of retries), I'm
still stuck in the first mission. At easy level! These cops hard hard to
lose... But I guess some more tries will do the trick. Once more...

Press fast steer, turn the
wheel all the way to left or right, hit gas, and you'll make a 360
turn. Very easy.
Speed and brake test: Start at one side of the garage, press the
Burnout key, hit gas, and just before you reach the other wall press
the brakes.
The only thing that I still find quite difficult is the backward 180
turn. Drive backwards full speed, turn the wheel a little bit to the
left, then immediately turn it full to the right with the fast steer
key pressed. You have to play a little bit with gas and brake to get
this one right.
I find the first level too difficult indeed, the first real missions
after the test are much easier.

Fast steer don't do shit, as far as I'm concerned.. maybe its for the
keyboard/joystick jockeys or something....
other than that, the game ROCKS! no gpl or anything, but pretty cool
boatmobile physics.
and the chases it came from are like bullit on speed!

Is gas/brake analogic?

i have the pedals on combined. (cause I have to have them combined for
revolt to work, which by the way is one of the coolest games I've seen in a
while.)

brother in the demo.
My question is not combined or split axis in pedals, is analogic or
digital.
In the demo the pedals are digital (you can't do a bit gas, you have
gas on or gas off), is in the full game the same?
Thanks

Andre
It's digital.
Peter
i think analog... I was trying to drive really slow and was able (after a
little while) able to hold it at a steady 30 mph. so it must be anolog,
right?

digital, if were analogic these buttons has no sense.
In the demo, the pedal is a button, in the range of no gas to middle
pedal the button is off, from the middle pedal to full the button is
on. Perhaps the 30 mph is the middle pedal and switching into button
off and on can hold the 30 mph.
Try hold other speed with same car.
For me is important this detail, if is analogic I'll buy the game, if
it's digital no.
Thanks

Andre
I have the full version, and I can give as much or as few gas as I
want. I think the cruise control is handy because it's quite difficult
to keep the pedal pressed the same amount. You can drive 50, if you
drive above 50 the cops will come after you (I believe it's 50). So at
the moment I drive 50, I press cruise control and I don't have to
worry about going faster because I accidentally press my gas pedal too
much.
To make a long story short: BUY IT! You can't compare it to GPL, it's
a completely different game, but it's fun, fun, fun, and the music is
absolutely fabulous! It gives the right 'streets of san fransisco'
feeling :)

Some missions are much easier if you keep driving 50 when
a police car is in the vicinity. If you have enough time, only speed
if there is no cop around. And I don't use cruise control for this.

Accelerate/Up Break/Down?
What controller _are_ you using btw?

(haven't played the demo in a while):
I wouldn't say that the pedal (Logitech FF wheel, USB) it really like
a "button" though... On my setup, it's more like an analog control,
except... Well, if I put my pedal 1/2 way down, the car will reach a
set speed, say 60mph, then fluctuate on either side of that speed.
Holding the pedal as steady as I can results in the car accelerating
to 60mph, hitting 61 then slowing down, going below 60, speeding up,
etc...
It's like the pedal controls the actual *speed* of the vehicle, as
opposed to the *engine power*.
In any case, it's unrealistic and I hate it. The demo game is fun,
but it's so hard to control the car's speed that I stopped playing it.
