Ok, folks. I"ve about had it with WON. It's not the boneheads. It's not the warps. It's the HOSTS! Until we have some sort of code of conduct for hosts, we can't even begin to deal with the connection problems and boneheads. 3 out of 5 races I join terminate early because the Host gets wrecked out, and doesn't want to wait around for the finish. Or... The host runs his qual real quick, then jumps to race before everyone has a chance to qual. Or... The host starts a practice session, and then disappears. I was in an Indy race with some 30+ racers, a GREAT connection, and it sat there for over 30 min. Everyone was ready to get such a well connected race underway, and the host never, once, responded to a single chat message. Eventually, everyone just quit. What a waste of a great big group and a wonderfull connection. Maybe someone should start a web page that's a "WON Host Hall of Fame" :) After a series of well run races, you could be nominated to be put on the page. After the webmaster running it got enough good reports about a particular person, then they would be added to the Hall of Fame. A Hall of Shame could also included for those not so, uh, nice. However, this 'floating ID' problem is the killer. I wish that WON at least had a login system where you had to create a proper ID, and use that ID every time. Hell, if they wanted a few bucks a month to manage it, I'd pay it in a heartbeat. This one thing kills just about every idea I think of in improving WON for pickup races. -Larry LTB on TEN, LTB on WON.

Hey Larry, I'm not sure all the time the problem is with the Host , I was running a server here at dega on Cable with about 20 racers and in the middle of the race bang everone was disconected , hehe went from running 10th to 1st place in 1 second. I thenk what we need is a program like GPL Spy Boy so we can chat etc etc . Catch you on the track I hope . hehe Ken aka RoadKill on Won
I get an N3 crash at least once a night while hosting. N3 will just crash to the desktop. So this may be the case at times.

I have had the same situation two nights ago. Crash to desktop!! Both times I was in practice and chatting between races. Luckily I have had great success with hosting and about everyone came back once I came back online. Small amount of warping, ,not a lot. Had a great cable connection for over 5 hours last night. I agree with needing etiquite, but I don't see a easy solution for this. If you get a bad host, just don't go back to his races! When you get a good host, (they're there!) remember them and go back. If your a clean racer, I'm sure they'll like to see again. I did kill one race early. Killed the connection and cut everyone off! there were some crashes at the start, (common) then the language got out of hand. I believe I was in 4th, pulled off the track, told them I was killing it, then killed it. Guess what, everyone that was fast came back and agreed with what I did. NOTE TO HOSTS! If you crash out early or just want a break, watch the race!! let the guys run!! I ran a 30 lap tally race last night, pulled in the pits after first lap, and watched the race live from the replay screen. IT WAS AS MUCH FUN AS RACING! and I didn't leave the guys in the race (now my friends!) hang in practice.

Man, what a freakin putz... If you had been keeping up with events, you'd know that most disconnects are caused by the sim crashing on the host computer. It happens to me 3 out of 5 races I try to host. I run the sim as server on one machine on my LAN, and connect through the LAN to the server. Even *I* get disconneced from my host. Before you start spewing shit, make sure you know what the *** you're talkin' about. I got yer "Hall of Shame" hangin... -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html Barbarian Diecast Collector (370+ cars and counting) http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html North American Stockcar Racing Online Competition http://www.paddedwall.org/nasroc1/nasroc1.html Super X Philes http://members.home.net/kap/superx/superx.html If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

I always host races, due to cable 'net access. I've had some nights where I may host 5-7 races and all goes well. Other nights my PC crashes at "some random moment" during practice/qual/or during race after race. Frankly, it's embarrassing, and I'm sure that the other drivers were pissed too! As for "hosting etiquette", just last night my car got demolished in lap 2 of a 40 lap race at C***te. I got it towed to the pits, and watched the rest of the race. There's no way in hell that I'd intentionally disconnect the others just because my car got clobbered! -Paul (ScanMan on WON) My reply address is false. Please post replies to this news group. You can watch the race live from the replay screen? How! -Larry > I have had the same situation two nights ago. Crash to desktop!! Both times I was > in practice and chatting between races. You want to talk to me with respect, then fine. If not, then your comments are not necessary nor wanted. -Larry It's nonsense like this that screws up

> You can watch the race live from the replay screen? > How! Just pit, or pull off the track (get out of the way!) press Exc. key On the replay screen, select a car that is in front, and hit the fast forward till you are watching it live!! (the >>| button) You can switch cameras, cars to follow, or even go to the in-car or roof-cam of the car that took you out, and watch him take you out.... hehehe... I've done this when I was tired of racing but didnt want to kill the connection. Pretty cool! PS: had a guy from Hawawi on tonight. Great connection, no warping. (except from 1 person that happened to be in my own state. Who'd figure!) Jeff aka: Hitch-Hiker
