Nascar 3 and GPL

Just did a 100% race at Talladega, started from the back and within 12 laps I was in first position (100 % AI), it was nice and close and I enjoyed the first 12 laps. From that moment on the boredom kicked in I was just so eager to make a right hand turn. It made me think (during the race) what was wrong with it. It's just too easy. I know what you want to say, go and drive at another track then. I tried that but I just don't like a short oval. The car behaves strange on the different 'parts' of the corner. Those tracks aren't fluent, you probably know what I mean. Furthermore I can brake into a corner and slide the car through a corner, which isn't bad but the lack of real physics makes it feeled canned. There are so many weaknesses in the game that aren't in GPL that I just understand why there wasn't put more effort into this sim. I hate the 'dancing' opponents for one, and the way the AI 'forgets' to close the gap on under yellow irritates me even more. Maybe it's just because I'm no Nascar fan, but I am a big racing fan so I think that I'll love any good racing sim. GPL is just spoiled me, but now I have a small problem with it too. I've done Nascar 3 for a week now and before that I didn't do much GPL. I decided to do some running at Rouen yesterday and it was just so good but also so hard. I was all over the place, my reactions were quite good but the pure speed wasn't really there. I think that has a lot to do with N3 which is just to easy to drive. Which isn't bad if the AI was a bit harder to ace, but they're just too nice. I just hope there'll once be a Indycar or F1 sim based on the GPL engine. If one of the GPL designers is reading this, please sell your engine to Ubisoft or Microprose so they can build the F1 sim.

Try N3 On-line, its much better than off-line racing due to real opponents. There are some real fast drivers on-line, and the racing is bumper to bumper if you get in the right race. If you find their is no competion on-line, well I guess your the greatest NASCAR sim driver in the world, hehe. Seriously, this is where N3 shines is on-line due to the close racing. I also run GPL, and like you, really enjoy it, but GPL on-line just gets boring to me because 9 out of 10 races your alone on the track most of the time. The F2, F3 races are a bit more competitive on-line, but I go to sleep. I guess all the password races in GPL are better than the pick up ones. Anyone have a password? I would like to experience these great on-line races I hear everyone speak of. For me, I run GPL off-line, N3 On-line. No Comparison when it comes to big fun. Ahh, we are supposed to be having fun I think. Rick

I could do that but it's not really my point, I find the entire experience just too easy. It must be more difficult to win the Talladega 500. GPL offers a far bigger challenge. > >Just did a 100% race at Talladega, started from the back and within 12 laps > >I was in first position (100 % AI), it was nice and close and I enjoyed the

Shouldn't 100% be the equivalent of the real world drivers and 105% be virtually unbeatable? That's like the grading scale today where 90% of the class is expected to make an A which is suppposedly Excellent, not average (which is a C). Just another mild bug. ____________________ Hydrogen and Stupidity.. The two most universal elements

Hi Rick, If you want some close and clean racing in GPL, where most of the races are populated by a minimum of 10 drivers, who don't get a bad case of podium fever,(you now the disease where the driver in question just has to get on the podium regardless of how he does it), then try joining a good league, i think you will soon change your thoughts.. As Joao said to you in a recent post, we in the GMSS have very close, clean races in all classes that GPL has to offer, F1, F2 & F3. I am sure plenty of other leagues are the same, so try it, you will be surprised... If you fall asleep in F3 or F2 races, then you have been racing against the wrong drivers. :)) If you want to experience some close clean racing in GPL, drop the GMSS a line some time, i am sure we can arrange a demo race that will change your mind. The URL is: http://www-fp.thevision.net/gmss/ We are always on the look out for clean and sensible racers... For me, I run Funny thing Rick,I find it just the opposite way. I love N3 off line. The racing is great. Online I prefer my GPLRC club. I found the online racing with N3 so far to be really disappointing. Joel Willstein

I think there will be a corollary to that law when NASCAR Legends is released. These will be unrestricted engines with lots of power, and the cars aren't as aerodynamic. How well they capture all this with the physics model will remain to be seen, but unless it's totally porked you should be able to pass the car in front much easier than with the NASCAR Racing xx sims, that are simulating the restrictor plates. If done really well, it'll be awesome. If you've seen a CART race at Michigan or Fontana in the last few years, with the Handford wing to create drag, you have a great idea of what NASCAR races at 'Dega and Daytona were like "back in the day". The big, squarish cars cut a big hole in the air, and with horsepower to spare they'd pass all over the place - you usually didn't want to be in the lead at the end, as you'd get someone to slingshot by you. It'll be interesting to see :-) -- Ken's Sig 3.0 "Who is the more foolish? This is nonsense. The problem is the ai performs differently at each track. While at Dega you can turn them way over 100%, at another track it is impossible to be competitive at 101%. The point is (again) the lack of realism. Just be consistent ai! Sorry for those who have such thin skin over criticism of a redone Nascar1 "game".

I agree..If done correctly it will be fantastic! My realistic feeling, however, is that Nascar Legends2 will probably be the one to have, and hopefully will (finally) be based on GPL engine. It IS possible to alter the BLAP and RELS values in trackxxx.txt file. I usually configure them to do real-life speed laps on 100%, then dump them down a few notches. -- Toni Lassila
