No, not a new sitcom! :) Running N3 on a Cel400 (OCd to 450) with a 12 meg V2, SB Live, MSFF, yada, yada Glide mode, 800x600, draw ahead 4. With AA, on the "ALT-F thingy" (let's call it that until someone from Pappy confirms it's framerate) is usually around 20(23) or so - somewhat disappointing. Changing to 8bit sounds, unchecking FF or lowering # of AI has no noticable that res 2+ years ago... In deparation, try D3D. Whoa! 30(30) in 800x600 & almost that in 1024x728. But the colours suck (Ok I can change the gamma settings) but the details on the cars and walls are all chunky & gross looking, damn! Hmm, D3D disables AA... Try Glide & uncheck AA... Success! Good numbers even under 1024x728. & looks a whole lot better than D3D, to boot! So... any of you running a simular setup getting better results or any V3 guys able to run AA without such a frame rate hit? Thx Randy

>So... any of you running a simular setup getting better results or any V3 >guys able to run AA without such a frame rate hit? I may be mistaken, but I thought Voodoo 1 and 2 cards didn't do true hardware anti aliasing. That's the reason for the performance hit when you enable it. Not sure about V3 cards. Tim
I'm running it under a Celeron 400, Creative Blaster Banshee, 64 meg RAM, runs great with all detail on in 3Dfx mode. It really starts to suck when there are too many different video card protocols and developers have to spread their game "too thin" to meet the requirements for each. -- Mike Johansson NeOhio SCCA > No, not a new sitcom! :) > Running N3 on a Cel400 (OCd to 450) with a 12 meg V2, SB Live, MSFF, > yada, yada > Glide mode, 800x600, draw ahead 4. I'm not sure about the V3 either, but I remember the same about the V1 and V2 and AA - it was done in the driver and not hardware (like the Rendition). I strongly suspect the same with the V3, I've never seen it stated anywhere that this was an added feature - and we know how companies will hype anything positive :-) P2-400 + V3-3000 here, running at 800x600 everything seems smooth with everything on, except a bit jerky at Bristol unless I drop the "cars drawn ahead" to like 15. Disabling force feedback, etc., didn't have much of an effect. May have to try disabling the AA and see what the FPS is - maybe 1024 w/o AA looks better than 800 w/ AA. Come on Voodoo4, with built-in hardware fullscreen AA :-) -- Ken's Sig 3.0 "Who is the more foolish? I'd say go for the riva tnt 2 ultra! > I'm not sure about the V3 either, but I remember the same about the V1 and > V2 and AA - it was done in the driver and not hardware (like the Rendition). > I strongly suspect the same with the V3, I've never seen it stated anywhere

Yeah, and get SLOWER framerates in N3 and everything else. Just what I want. Not. You did *READ* the original post, which said the D3D looked worse than the Glide mode? Why would I want to downgrade? The discussion was about the anti-aliasing option, which, as you'll notice, is only available under *Glide* - with your TNT2 Ultra, you don't even have the option - and again, from all reports - it's slower than the Voodoo cards running good old "outdated" Glide. Peddle your video card evangelism to someone who asks for it - none of us in this thread said anything about wanting a different card, just comparisons on how well our *3dfx* cards were running with different options, that are completely unavailable to your vaunted TNT2 Ultra. Contribute something *useful*, or ***out - simple, no? -- Ken's Sig 3.0 "Who is the more foolish? ok actually, I did read it, but it was in the back of my mind when i wrote the post. Actually, now that i think about it, i read the original post yesterday, then responded to another post in the thread today, so i didn't completely remember the original post. well, glide wouldn't be so outdated if game manufacturers (and video card manufacturers?) would be keeping up with the times... You keep saying "your" tnt2 ultra, I don't have a tnt2 ultra, I just thought it was good, overall, not just d3d or glide. yip, quite simple P.S. I'm currently using 1 voodoo2 12 meg, so I basically have no experience with the crappy glide imaging, but my brother has a riva tnt 1 and it looks good... Anyhew, guess I should've thought more before i posted (no need to respond to that anybody).

Hey Randy, thanks a ton. I was wondering what the heck was going on with my Vodoo 2. I did not want to run in 640x480 to get 30(30) at Talladega. I'm glad you posted, but it would have been great if your header mentioned vodoo2. Thanks for the info. Ex
