I never thought I'd live to see the day. Apparently Project Gotham 2 on the
XBox has the full 14 mile Nurburgring Nordschliefe circuit. A friend of
mine picked up the game today (apparently he found an EB with it on the
shelves early,) and right there on the back of the box it makes reference to
being able to drive every car on the famed Nordschleife circuit. A quick
check on IGN confirmed that this track is in the game, in its full 14 mile
glory!
Sorry if this is old news, but it was news to me that this track has been
modeled in a console game. Unfortunately, I don't own an Bbox, so I'll be
anxiously awaiting word from others on the quality of the Nordschleife model
in this game. I hope it (and the rest of the game) stands up to scrutiny.
I don't expect GPL-quality physics, but if I can get reasonably believable
physics and a decent model of the Nurburgring going on my home theater
setup, then it might be time to spring for an XBox.

What is the general consensus about PG2? Better than GT3 on the PS2?

Fairly different games, but in terms of overall quality I'd say yes. The
cars in GT3 probably appear to behave closer to their real-life counterparts
from a distance but the cars in PGR2 exhibit more sim-like handling
characteristics. That doesn't mean it's a sim though. From what I've seen
of the Nurburgring it appears to be modelled fairly accurately though I
haven't put it under the microscope yet....they've certainly done an amazing
job of accurately modelling the cities though.
From what ive heard from the fans of PGR and MSR, they think PGR2 is worse
then the previous titles.
Crap ai, kudos no good in the game etc.

I've learned the
hard way to be skeptical of any holiday-season releases that come out after
mid-November. Most of those titles end up being rushed out the door to be
available before Christmas.

Weren't the GT4 crew seen at nurby too? Might be an answer for PGR2's
inclusion!
I played PGR1, and i thought it wasnt as good as GT3 for feel. Watching a
replay of GT3, you can see the dampers are working right, the tyres are
overloading appropriately, and it generally looks convicingly like a car
driving around a track. PGR didn't quite look authentic to me.
That and the xbox doesn't have real FFB support (pffft), and you have to pay
a montly fee for xbox live (that doesnt include the net connection, does
it?). Looks like GT4 will outsell PGR2, and show that sony still is king of
the hill.
Which is kind of sad really, cos the xbox is a better bit of kit.. it just
got out manouvered.

Kudos are the games saving grace.
The game would be better than GT3 in any case, but the kudos system
actually means there's some sort of gameplay present besides the ricer
upgrade fantasy system..

I think you missunderstood, the kudos-system was better in PGR1 and MSR. Not
that it was bad having it!.

Got the game today. It's great. The 'Ring is INDEED there, but not quite
the 'full' ring. Compared to GPL, it's missing what I call the 'stadium'
section, the two short straights w/ 180 turn that sorta encompasses the
pit road/paddock area. In other words, after coming off 'the straight',
there are those few turns going up towards pit road, but instead of going
onto the start/finish line straight ala GPL, you make a right 90o turn,
then down a very short straight into what would be the second left 90o
turn in the GPL version. IOW, it's basically the way the track runs now in
'tourist' mode, with the exception of being able to go down the straight
at full blast. As for accuracy, it's very colose to the way I imagine it
is today, In other words, the track is the same as in GPL (VERY close, it
fdelt like putting on well worn shoes), but some of the more obvious
safety problems with '67 track had (the very treacherous curves mainly)
have been fixed up. It's great, and the selection of cars is wonderful.

Ohhhhhh.
What did they change this time around?

That sounds like the current configuration which bypasses the first two
straights. Pit road is a parking lot/toll booth on the long back straight.
