did the subject title perk anyone's interest? Anyone heard of it? More
importantly anyone seen it? Even more importantly... ANYONE HAVE IT? My
good friend once saw it at a club meeting (after I had left the club, of
course) and it's killing me that he's seen it and I haven't. I've dreamed
about it for like 10 years ever since I read about it in a Car and Driver
mag. If anyone has it, I'd gladly pay shipping/etc. for a copy to be sent
up to vancouver, canada....
for those who don't know what it is.... a crazy french dude sticks a camera
on the dash of his car, and drives hell-ass-crazy through paris using
pedestrians as apexes and what-not, all in a mad dash to pick up his date
(or something like that). Just a regular joe, with a camera. it's
apparently pretty nuts. I'd looooove to see it. I've made some cool
homemade vids with sportbikes and stuff, but never through crowds or
anything nuts like that.... I think it'd be something to see....
I had heard that the driver was Alain Prost...I think the car was a BB512,
maybe just a 328 though.
Saw it in a car shop (The Toy Shop, specialised in 2nd hand DeTomaso,
Porsche, Ferrari, Cobra etc in the heady 80s) here in Sydney, Oz, a while
back...one of the shops here has it (Motoring Bookshop) but it's way
expensive and in US format.

Classic Motorbooks has it. I thought about ordering it, but it's like
40 bucks and I think it's only about 12 minutes long.
Their web page apparently isn't constructed yet
www.classicmotorbooks.com, and I don't have a catalog handy to give
you a number. Maybe someone else can help.
Tim
Yup, Classic Motorbooks has it. It was French director Claude Lelouch behind
the wheel of a V-12 Ferrari driving like a madman. It's 9 minutes long and
just a paltry $49.95 (American) plus shipping and handling. What a
bargain!!! :-) Part # 117461N

I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how
long it's been since I've forgotten anything.

$49.95 and worth every penny! This is the ultimate car-guy's fantasy
flick. Flying through the traffic circle at the Arc de Triomphe;
blowing past red lights all over the place; must have been done early
on a Sunday morning. Now I'll have to go home and dig out the tape so I
can watch it again...

It totally rocks!

I saw it 20yrs ago as a short before the Who film Quadrophenia.
Does anybody remember shorts before feature films ? Anyway,
I remember it as one of the neatest bits of motorsports film I've
ever seen. Full tilt through the early morning streets of Paris,
just about dying at least a half dozen times. There where no credits
at the end to avoid prosecution, a real piece of underground
motorsports film making. I don't know of anything else like it.
I've heard mention that the car was a Ferrari but I had always
thought it was a Mini-Cooper.

You guys are making it worse!!! You weren't supposed to rub it in, you're
supposed to help me out! :)
Soooo.... any one of you guys that happen to be graced with a copy
interested in sending a copy up north? :)
I'm dying to see it, but a starving student certainly can't convince his gf
its reasonable to spend 80 bucks on a 9 min. movie.

And yes he did that for REAL, there's no special effects. That's the
craziest thing here. I've heard that Lelouch got arrested a couple of times
while filming this video.
If you want to see an article about it, try to find the Autoweek magazine of
October 11, 1993 on page 38. I've seen only about 30seconds of it,
unfortunately :(

"People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise
how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."
And similar stunts were attempted in Britain and Germany with people
mounting video cameras on their dashboard, with an additional one mounted
facing the speedometer. In one case, the footage ends with the driver
piling into the back of an innocent party's car while travelling about
285kph on the Autobahn. It's perverse. With paid laps at Mosport, the
Ring, Road Atlanta etc. costing practically nothing, I cannot condone
testosterone-charged rich boys playing with their toys on public roads. I
won't buy this video, or any similar one.
that's my soapbox spiel for the day. Too bad if it makes me look like a
bleeding heart.
