Plea to stop demanding sims from Papyrus

A poster complained that GPL was only a 'semi-decent' 1960s game and that people should stop assuming Papyrus would make great sims of every racing series. Others strongly defended GPL as the most advanced racing simulation available and its engine as the key, not the 1967 theme. Side posts clarified the difference between EA's NASCAR 99 and Papyrus's NASCAR Racing 1999.

I'm really sick of this........ They make GPL...... a good sim, good gfx, but to be honest I'm still of the opinion its not totally the game you all make it out to be, but nevertheless, I enjoy it very much and think it is very good. Now, lets comepair that to other 1960's sims....... oh wait, theres NONE! No competition. Ok, N3,N2 , N1, all good NASCAR games/sims, but look again.....we have nothing to compare it to! Maybe PAPY are being smart, producing somewhat decent GAMES where there has not been one before, therefore, no competition, the dominate the market in that division, In my opinion, if PAPY had more competition we would end up with a collection of top rate sims but for now, its just not going to happen..... ..for this reason, I'm saying..... top says thing like "PAPY are sooooooo brilliant they should make an modern f1 game, rally, .........etc...the list goes on!" Why do you assume that Papy can make a fantastic modern f1, rally , nascar, cart game with a GPL engine....... you must be joking... You can't be anything more than one of those people who dis RS2 for having handling much different to GP2...... yeah, like a 1994 F1 car is anything like a 1997....... ah well, that ones for another day...I've made my point.

Oh *** it, thats not what I mean....... Of course ideas are great but I just wonder why everyone thinks that PAPY would make such fantastic sims of ever form of racing known to man just because of 1 semi-decent 1960's game? >>You can't be anything more than one of those people who dis RS2 for having >>handling much different to GP2...... yeah, like a 1994 F1 car is anything >>like a 1997....... ah well, that ones for another day...I've made my point. >Yea. Semi-decent 1960's game? Although it may not be a huge hit in the US, it's still the best open wheel sim ever made. First of all, it's not because "you" think that it's semi-decent that for the majority of the *** Simracers it is. We all think that it's a masterpiece, that the new game engine is incredible and is the way of the future for Papyrus. GPL is a pure racing simulation, it's *** and incredibly realistic. It's the best racing title on the market, and it's because of the completely new Papyrus game engine it has. It's as simple as that. Second of all, If Papy would do any game with the GPL game engine, we would all buy it, so we have the right to talk about anything on this newsgroup. Never tell us what to do. -- -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... "People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."
Imagin, you have two racing games. Compare the two. You will find out, that they have different driving-models. One is good, the other is shit, no matter if the two compared sims play in the 80s in the 60s or in the 90s. No matter if the cars go on gravel or tarmac. IT IS POSSIBLE TO COMPARE RACING-GAMES. Titop By the way, the good one is GPL.

I've got to be one of the most discerning sim racing drivers there are... I race myself and have a father who not only currently races an 83 F1 car, but has raced just about every type of car there is in his long motorsport hostory I will not even waste a moment on anything that is even partially game ... only the most realistic sim that is possible with current computer hardware will do for me. Every other sim I ever used went out the window with my purchase of GPL The physics engine is without doubt the best that is possible with current computer hardware. It is the first sim to acurately model certain very important aspects of a racing car ... inertia, realistic independent suspension movement and damping, modeling of the mass of each significant part of each car etc etc etc .... the list could go on and on. Not only this but its ingenious use of 60s F1 cars and circuit which in regards to pure fun has to be the most enjoyable era there is in F1s 50 year history. It is every part the game we make it out to be and more ... it is 10years ahead if its time. Irregardless if the lack of 1960s F1 sim on the market ... its direct competition is any release that has the gaul to call itself a racing simulator. I am open to constructive criticism of GPL, but your points are totally unfounded. GPL requires the dedication of the real thing... either give it the time it deserves or stop trolling this SIMULATION newsgroup GraDee. Marc Mercer
If you think GPL is just a 60's sim then you're missing the point of the GPL engine by about <-----(infinity-1)----> this much. The 67 theme to GPL is just skin deep. But don't you see....... You say I am critisising people because I don't believe it is the "BEST SIM EVER MADE" but then you all go off and criticise me ! sheeeese And again, of course if PAPY ever make anything ever again that they call a sim everyone will go and buy if because of GPL..... but I don't understand why people would think that ust since PAPY can make a decent 1960's F1 sim that automatically everything they do is a gift from God? PAPY is very very talented at what they do, I just don't understand how you are all so 1 sided...... I'd say the same about any other company or manufacture if you all (well, most of you) acted like this........

Are you joking me? I made addons for GP2, I built tracks for GP2, I was in a number GP2 leagues, race it night and day I made addons for RS2, I race online constantly, and racing in the RS2 "Official" League, race it night and day Always racing GPL, I am actually quite competent when it comes to GPL, race it night and day. If threes a sim to be got in these parts, I have it! And I'm quite competent to race any one of them! If you think I'm ot a true simulation racer then you can get out of my face... you don't hae to believe it, but then again,I don't have to believe everything you say either..... Thats what this NG's all about..!

No one every said it was the best sim that will ever be made. If someone says that, they are an absolute moron given the track record of the computer industry for the rate of turn over in software and hardware advances. However, right now IT IS THE MOST ADVANCED RACING SIMULATION "GAME" AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, period. Now, granted, its not everyone's cup of tea as far as either the "theme" of 1960s GP racing nor the level of realism achieved. However, that doesn't mean its still not the top of the heap of current racing titles.

Please tell me where I criticise you. Stop taking things too personally here. Nowhere below I criticise you. Err... why do you say this ? Nascar Racing 3 had a very cold approach by the r.a.s. community. Same goes for every product released after GPL. NascarRacing 99 and Craftman Trucks series. I think you should look for our history of messages on r.a.s. Saying we praise anything from Papyrus is untrue. They are the most known racing simulation company in the world, and they have made the most realistic sim at the moment. Those are facts, you know ?

Indeed... people are entitled to say what they like and express their opinions in this newsgroup... However when you tell people to stop talking about a certain aspect of Sim racing as you did in your subject line, you are going against the purpose of the newsgroup as you have just defined it yourself. Using such an unnecessarily belligerent subject line to elict a response from people is knows as trolling... I believe thats what your original post amounted to. A more passive explanation of your feelings on this subject would have been preferable. Marc
