Hi.... So far i have heard mixed reviews about Rally Championship. I am new to this group so could the people who have played the demo please tell me exactly what they think about it (comparing it to Colin Mcrae Rally). I am a huge fan of rally games and am especially interested in how the car handles in the game...Does it feel realistic? Also, aAre there annoying "invisible barriers" on the side of the road? Will the game run OK on my Celeron 300, 12 MB VOODOO2, 64MB? Are the graphics as "great" as they claim? Is it some shitty arcade game or is it a simulation? I expect only the best when it comes to rally games. Any less than a 50% improvement on Colin Mcrae Rally would be very disappointing. I would appreciate some feedback from fellow Rally fans..... It doesn't feel realistic at all, sorry that's how the demo gives us the impression of the game. You can only drive with the keyboard, so ColinMcRae "the demo" is superior. Whatever it's alpha or beta I don't care, a demo is a demonstration of a product, and if they show us that it's not finished well it's their fault, not ours. (not talking to you about that eesendon, just to some people on r.a.s. ) ;) -- -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... >I expect only the best when it comes to rally games. Any less than a >50% improvement on Colin Mcrae Rally would be very disappointing. I >would appreciate some feedback from fellow Rally fans..... > Peter, Australia The handling feels a bit off, but I can't nail down why. I think it's down to me not being able to get any sort of pendulum effect going at the rear (setting the car up for a corner) and the fact that there's very little perceptable body roll, so the car feels too stiff for an off-road stage. Externally, the Ibiza looks like it's set up to asphalt spec (low ride, large alloys) so maybe part of it is that the setup of the car in the demo is way off. Keyboard only control and no handbrake don't help, but so far it feels like a mildly improved version of this company's previous rally games handling model. The car also feels too light. BUT I love the***pit view - and there are enough view options to please everyone. The stage is a challenge. It's very narrow (as it should be), fairly long (10 minutes is a storming time - my best is around 11:15) and for me, graphically very pleasing (PIII450, V3). You can't just nail the gas like in CMR, you've got to tread carefully. The pace notes are far more comprehensive than CMR and although many have complained about the slightly disjointed and relaxed nature of the co-driver, I like him. Going back to CMR I get annoyed with Nicky for not giving me enough info. I haven't found any invisible walls so far - you can end up in ditches or way off track, but there are the usual invincible wooden fences. I can live with that. Is it arcade or sim? Well, it certainly is a challenge, and if the handling isn't as sweetly honed as something like GPL you certainly can't just floor it. I'd say it's a valliant effort at a sim. Arcade racing to me is something that anyone can pick up and get into with minimum effort, and generally has very little use for a brake pedal (button?). This is not like that. I disliked Europress' previous two rally efforts (Owned full version of RAC, played friend's copy of RC) but I think I'll end up getting this one. Even though the handling doesn't seem to quite hit the spot (yet), there's nothing else out there that replicates the challenge of threading your way through the tight, twisty loose stuff like this. Try the demo. It's always best to make up your own mind. Cheers, Mark Reading, UK
I have the demo and run it on a P2 350 with 16Bm Banshee. It runs great (dem only runs in 800x600x16bit). Personally I didn't think much of CMR. It was a nice game and there was nothing wrong with it ... but it played lge Sega Rally .. not realistic at all to me. What about RC'2000 ? Again I had the original RAC (from about 3 years ago) and I'd say that was the most realistic rally game that I played (hated the insivible walls though). Anyway, RC'2000 - don't expect GPL level of realism. It's nothing like it. Though, compared to any other rally game out there this one is by far the most realistic. The car you drive is a front wheel drive and it suffers from chonoc front wheel spin, tourque steer and on power understeer. It feels very much like a Front wheel drive car should. Can "interact" with scenery (bumps) really well and responds to controls really well too (keoybord only in the demo is a pain but you can get the feel of the car anyway). I do agree that the car doesn't seem to have enough bodyroll (maybe, hopefully it's only a stiff setup) and therefore it's hard to generate any mometum at the back of the car. This part seems a little bit weak to me, though I still think the car handles a lot mere realistic than any other rally game I played before. BTW, they have a the grvity calculation wring in the demo - the car kindoff floats though the air a bit, though, they are on it from what I read. Graphicly the game is stunning. The car is unbelievably awesome and detailed. You;ll just want to watch it from the TV view :-) track graphics are almost photo-realistic ... though don't expect it to look like NFS ... it's really a lot of trees, fences, grass, mud, gravel, tarmac, dithes and hills ... just like in real life. Sound is great too. BTW, absolotelly no invisible walls .. .the only things you can hit are the things you can see. You can drive 2 lanes of the track, cut corners, go behind trees and it's all OK with the game :-) All in all, I think that this is the best rally-sim so far but I still do hope that they give the car more momentum/inertia (if it's not the setup). that's really the only flaw in the car physics engine. Try it, Regards, David Mocnay

thanx for your replies. the game sounds pretty damn good....I just hope that they fix the problems in the handling b4 the game is released.... So when is it due out in Australia? also, is it true that there is a sequel to Colin Mcrae Rally on the way? Peter, Australia Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Not sure when RC is coming out but CMR2 is in pipeworks ... if you look around you'll find a fair few screenshots. Looks good in those, but I have no idea what improvements they are actually making to the game. Regards, David Mocnay

>So when is it due out in Australia? also, is it true that there is a >sequel to Colin Mcrae Rally on the way? > Peter, Australia CMR has just been released in the UK as a *Platinum* game - bargain basket to those outside of the UK. That's usually an indicator that a second version is to be put out soon. Invited some of my real world rallying pals over to play it after the Ojibwe forest prorally here in the states. We all agree it seems like gravity is at about .5g or something. The car doesn't hook up, and has either WAY too much hp, or a serious clutch problem. ^_^ Very very pretty, but rather an alpha we hope. Here's to hoping for a better internet released demo. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "Trying to explain computers to a layman is like trying to explain sex to a ***" R.
