Hi,
I was out looking for a new 2d / 3d graphics card, after my S3 Virge was apparently ' causing my voodoo2 lock ups. I original was going to buy the Intel i740 agp card as it would give me a good 2d base card and some 3d and all I was looking for was a cheap Agp card. Then I came across a small, cheap box with V2200 - Agp 2d/3d Graphics & Video Accelerator written on it. Being a GPL fanatic I though "hey look same name as the rendition chip" and "nah it can't be a rendition card". Anyway I asked the sales guy and he said that it was a rendition chip and that it was $50 AUD, I found this quite incredible as I was unable to get a rendition card into Australia 6 months ago for under $250 AUD.
So I bought this card as it was cheaper than the Intel card. Strait away I took it home and put it in and loaded up GPL. Its only a 4 Mb card so I was expecting the performance to not quite be as good as the Voodoo2 on my computer. However this was not the case. I actually found the performance better than my Voodoo2 in GPL and it appears to look sharper than my Voodoo2.
The only problem I had with the card was that drivers that came with it were old and that they were causing system crashes. So I just downloaded reference drivers from www.rendition.com.
So If you are looking for a cheap way to improve GPL then buy one of these cards.
The place where I got it from was Westfield North Rocks from their computer Market which is there every Sunday Morning.
