Favourite tracks across all racing sims

Members listed their favourite sim tracks. GPL's Nurburgring, Spa, Rouen and Zandvoort dominated, alongside SCGT's Road Atlanta and Mosport, GP2's Suzuka and Imola, and ICR2's Laguna Seca and Elkhart Lake. Several fondly recalled the open-road tracks of the original Need for Speed and Geoff Crammond's Revs.

I love to drive all sims and was wondering what other peoples favorite tracks were. I think my list would look something like this: 1. SPA from Grand Prix Legends. (1.1 patch makes FF awesome here) 2. Road Atlanta from Sports Car GT (with the 1.551 patch) 3. Mosport from Sports Car GT ( I like this one better than the GPL version of this track) 4. Sunset Mesa from Viper Racing 5. Alpine from the original Need for Speed SE( love ALL the LINEAR TRACKS HERE !!!!!) 6. Rock Island from Viper Racing 7. Talladega from Nascar2 8. Hometown from Need for Speed III (and High Stakes, same exact track) 9. Rouen from GPL (A nice narrow track that I enjoy hotlapping on) 10. Hockenheim from Sports Car GT( with an extremely fast car) These are just some of my favorites that I find myself going back to all the time. Did I miss your favorite? What do you all find to be your favorites? I find my self spending the most time with SCGT,Viper and GPL.

Those are all good picks. Road Atlanta I like both in SCGT and in real life. Fun to drive both ways (though I liked the old configuration much better). I would also like to add Detroit and Elkhart Lake from ICR2 though. I always enjoyed racing against the AI on these tracks because of the high complexity of the tracks and you can get some good racing going on with some nice evenly matched AI. I also think that Donington both short and long in SCGT is a good track. It has a lot of fast sweepers to keep you on the edge but some slow turns to make racing the AI interesting. That's my $.02 add-on JB
1. Silverstone from Grand Prix Legends. 2. Mesa Marin on N99 in trucks 3. Portland (n99 again as well as trucks again.....love those short track truck races, just wish it was online!) 4. Paradise Leap.....SODA Anyone seen screenshots of Motorcross Madness 2? Wouldnt those graphics KILL with SODA? What a great idea for a sim that just SUCKED in retail 5. Cleveland .......Cart/ICR2 Just did a reinstall 3 days ago to race there 6. Watkins Glen......GPL, only other GPL track I am comfortable with 7. Any circuit race in Midtown Madness in the F350 truck.....I know this is an arcader, but that really feels like driving a big truck, and I cant stop laughin plowing through traffic. 8. Lime Rock........ SCGT 9. Bristol/Martinsville...N1,N2,N99....Cant believe these arent tied for first. What got me into sim racing was those 2 tracks. 10.Bemedi ...backwards Viper I currently bounce between GPL, N99, and SCGT.......I just bought a MSFF wheel along with Midtown madness. I have only put in one or 2 races with GPL, Viper and SCGT to fully enjoy FF in sims, but I can say in Midtown Madness, FF can be both fun and a complete freakin hindrence. That damn wheel will wake the baby when I get damage. Really wanted the Logitech FF, but apparantly they are discontinued or Best Buy isnt carrying them no more.

I second that! I *really* enjoyed World Championship mode - every time it went to another track I thought: yes, I'm really looking forward to this one! My personal favourites are Zandvoort and Brands Hatch, but I'd love to go back to the Nurburgring if my system could cope with it online!

Hi everyone! It's been fun reading this thread! Now here are my picks: 1) Any version of Leguna Seca (I have not seen anyone mention this one for SCGT, how is it? I am considering picking this one up soon.) 2) Martinsville/Bristol (N*) - these too tracks IMO seem to give some of the best racing in the N* serise. 3) Michigan (ICR2) - close high speed racing 4) Monaco GP2 - (can do good with it in GP2, GPL is another story! :) ) 5) Watkins Glen GPL - The esses are fun when you get them right! 6) Mosport GPL - cool elevation changes! 7) C***te (N*) - All of the other C***te clones just aren't like C***te. I know there are more, but it is really hard to choose and my brain is starting to hurt! Later, John

Is that because it's not accurate, or you just don't like the track? I didn't like it either at first, and I have a big problem with those *** tyres in the ground - because I have to have details set to low, they "pop" into view right in front of me and I can't always see them until it's too late! It's tricky to master the esses, but once I got down to about 1:50 I found it a wonderful circuit for racing against the AI. I think there was a quote in the book about a lot of racing drivers liking it in real life, but not many people liking it in GPL, so perhaps it is just that version of the track that's at fault.

Talledega? Was that a troll? One line, ***AI, no brakes, tires don't matter, unnatural slipstreaming effects (no big packs). You seem to like going fast. In NASCAR, the new Atlanta in N99 is pretty good. Lotsa different lines, decent AI, tire management matters. In N2, maybe Michigan, C***te or Rockingham? Personally, I like the challenge of Sears Point. bob

I actually prefer Laguna Seca in ICR1 better. You could go through the downhill portion after the corkscrew full out without massive wing and suspension changes. The thing would hold on like it was on rails..pretty much regardless of the setup.

Make sure you pick up a Voodoo-3 3DFX video card when you buy SCGT. Not having 3DFX dones't do the game justice. Nothing beats the graphics in SCGT in the rain.
Nice idea. 1) For sheer nostalgia... ICR2/Laguna Seca 2) For current pleasure... GPL/Zandvoort 3) For "weirdest racing experience"... N2/Bristol (What are all those cars doing squashed onto a cycle track? :-) 4) Any track from Crammond's Revs... back when men were men and sims were black&white. Andrew McP
Speedy Fast 17 Aug 1999#486581
Well it's tough keeping the car under you going into the corkscrew. The visibility of the (top portion) of the apex is also limited since it tends to blend in with other colours. Too bad SCGT has the long-stick things (the things that stick out of the ground and bend over when you hit them only to rebound) are black. Other than that, I really like SCGT at all tracks.

My list. Mentionables: 1998 Australian F1 (OF1R) - best track they did i think. Vancouver - 98 layout (GP2 - user made) - awesome job. I had loads of fun running at my home town track. Ska Valley Track (GP2 - user made) - Really intersting. With those huge untouchable curbs. Almost flipped on them before. F1 Indy Track (GP2 - user made) - Really nice preview of what it might be like. [there's more. but i forget. some tracks its been a while.] My top 10 tracks (mostly from sims): 10) "The last hidden track, forgot name. It's been a while" (WipeOut XL\2097) -bottom of the list because it aint a sim. But as all the tracks were, its beautifuly done. and with all the walls so close it gives you a great sense of speed. and you never know, it may be come considered a sim one day. :) 9) Bristol (NR99) -The ultimate stadium track. High banks, and very little time for reaction makes this a very exciting course. 8) Mugello (GP500 Demo) - very well done. so its not the design that makes it low, its the course. 7) Louisville (NR99 - Trucks) - 1 word : unique. 6) Monaco (GP2) - I havn't liked any other version since. except maybe the one on F1 98 for PSX. OF1R is too hilly i think (espicaly how steap that one down to the first hairpin is) and Ubisoft just sucks. 5) Nurburgring (GPL) - couldn't have done much better with out having a time machiene. Way to go sierra. But it aint my fave. 4) Sugo (SBK) - only reason its up here is cause that damn chicane in the last long turn. I hate it to hell, but it makes the track what it is. 3) Assen (SBK and soon GP500) - Long, fast and twisty. Another beautiful track too. I just love how it flows through in those fast turns. and it looks great. 2) Ultima Track (GP2 - Fan Track) - If you've played this track you know what i mean. 16 of the most chalangeing and famous turns of the Formula 1 Series. And the graphics chance from track to track was very well done. But it ain't my favorite. my all time favorite track: 1) Stew Lake - Full (GP2 - Fan Track) I'm not shure if its actualy out there, but if so I wanna visit it. This track is ***in. And the amazing thing is, that is created by a fan. It has it all. Fast turns, top speed. Banked turns. What seams as a double diping chicane, half up half down. Tunnels. Its all there.

My favorite sim tracks in order: 1. Nurburgring GPL - what an awesome track, still a thrill every lap! my fave! 2. Spa GPL - Eau Rouge->Malmedy->Masta->Stavelot all great corners in 1 track! 3. Elkhart Lake ICR2 - loved this track, spent tons of hours on it. 4. Monza GP2 - also another favorite, great feeling hitting the Lesmos right. 5. Long Beach ICR2 - my favorite ICR2 street course great tight corners. 6. Alpine NFS1 - spent tons of time on this track too, fun + almost feels real. 7. Coastal NFS1 - another great NFS track that feels almost like realife. 8. Monaco GPL - very hard track but the run uphill from St.Devote is thrilling 9. Spa F1RS - the reason I first understood why Eau Rouge is so special. 10. Laguna Seca ICR2 - the corkscrew. Seeyas on the track. --John (Joao) Silva >I love to drive all sims and was wondering what other peoples favorite >tracks were. >I think my list would look something like this:

Here's my list: 1. Speedway from Powerslide (the closest thing we have to a sprint car sim -- GET THIS GAME) 2. Watkins Glen from GPL (can't drive it enough) 3. Walt Disney World from ABC Indy Racing (I know you all hate the game, but I love this track!) 4. Indianapolis from ICR2 or from ABC Indy Racing (hey, it's Indy) 5. Chatham from SCGT (underrated track -- fast and fun) 6. Atlanta converted to ICR2 (why'd they change the real track?) 7 Dover converted to ICR2 (looks easy but it's not) 8. Sunset Mesa from Viper Racing 9. Mexico from GPL (you've gotta have Ricky Martin's rhythm to enjoy this track! <G>) 10. Sandblaster from Powerslide (makes me feel like Rick Mears or Robby Gordon racing in the desert!) -- John Bodin Publisher, The IRL Insider Magazine http://irlinsider.adnetweb.com/

I would have the following list: 1) Watkins Glen (GPL) My first GPL track and I *still* only make 1:06!!! 2) Spa (GPL) & (GP2) Beautiful track and......it has Eau Rouge! 3) Monza (GP2) The first track I learned on GP2, a classic. 4) Rouen (GPL) A great *racing* track IMHO. 5) Suzuka (GP2) A flowing circuit, get it right and it feels great. 6) Silverstone (GPL) My home track, a personal favourite. 7) Barcelona (F1RS) This was my favourite F1RS track. 8) Donington GP (TOCA2) A great track to race on "door to door". 9) Monaco (GPL) Here simply cos it looks absolutely fantastic. 10) Talladega (N2) I'm not a big oval fan, but its a fun track to drive. 8-) *Peter* 8-)

Maybe by 2010 they will get the point. I've told them the same thing via e-mail and their NFS Webpage fan surveys, it just doesn't seem to sink in.... It's hard to understand how a company like EA can have everything so right in NFS1 and then manage to***it up in every version since is beyond me :-) maybe there is truth to that *** theory that Car & Driver (or whichever magazine had itself mentioned in NFS1) actually owned the rights to the code in NFS1 and took it with them when EA went on to NFS2 forcing them to start over from scratch without the source to NFS1 around to improve on... Well at least that's one possible explanation their stupid moves in NFS2/NFS2SE/NFS3 etc. Seeyas on the track. --John (Joao) Silva

It seems quite likely. Explains how they lost the brilliant 3d car/accident physics of NFS 1. But obviously they could make new open-road tracks if they were smart enough to do it. I can't comment on the accuracy as I've never seen it anywhere before GPL, it's just that I don't like the track. I don't even know why I don't like it, I can run 1:48's there on a good day. It just doesn't appeal to me I guess. I didn't include any ovals in the list because I hate all of those, they make me dizzy :) -- Ian Parker UKGPL League [link lost in import] -- > > Least favourite is Mexico GPL > Is that because it's not accurate, or you just don't like the track? > I didn't like it either at first, and I have a big problem with those > *** tyres in the ground - because I have to have details set to low, > they "pop" into view right in front of me and I can't always see them > until it's too late! > It's tricky to master the esses, but once I got down to about 1:50 I > found it a wonderful circuit for racing against the AI. > I think there was a quote in the book about a lot of racing drivers > liking it in real life, but not many people liking it in GPL, so perhaps > it is just that version of the track that's at fault.

On the BBC Micro you had to press and hold down "T" to start the engine, I believe. Once the engine is running I think it's Z and X or something like that for left and right, and if you hold down the space bar it increases the steering lock. I think accelerate and brake were / and : or something, and I'm not sure about gear change - it may be that you need to press something (possibly Return) while accelerating to change up, and press the same key while braking to change down. Personally I always used a joystick, so I'm not sure about the keys except for T and Space!

1. Laguna Seca - ICR1/2 Imola - GP2 Kyalami - GPL Lime Rock - SCGT Monaco - GP2 Elkhart Lake - ICR1 Interlagos - GP2 C***te - N2 Bristol - N2 Michigan - ICR2 I didn't rank those after #1 because I like them all fairly equally. Kyalami is moving up, though... <g> Eldred __ Put your message in a modem, and throw it in the ***-sea... remove SPAM-OFF to reply.
