GP500 motorcycle demo released on Avault

Posters reported that a demo of MicroProse's GP500 motorcycle game was available, with some confusion over whether Ascaron or Melbourne House was the developer. Early impressions praised the graphics, frame rate and physics, especially the feel of balancing near the limit. Opinion was split on the two-stroke engine sound, and some noted the lack of split-axis support and brake sounds.

It's not the same GP500, it's not the Microprose offering, it's the Ascaron offering.
Tony Wyss 12 Aug 1999#485589
What are you talking about? This is the Microprose demo, unless Ascaron decided to put MP art in there <g>

Darth Vader would say : "Impressive". It's a pretty good blend of sim stuff, with nice graphics and great framerate. I can't say much about the physics, Im still trying to figure the "do and do not" of driving a bike (never done that eh). But it seems pretty good, and they even have Doohan licensed ;-) -- -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... "People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."
Definately Microprose GP 500! I just installed and played it for a bit. The graphics are excellent and I'm strictly a 4 wheel racer, so I can't really judge the physics, but they seemed fairly realistic to me. I sure was eating a lot of pavement though. One thing that does suck, no split axis support. I had to check combined axis on the LWFF control panel to get the pedals to work with the demo Kyle > It's not the same GP500, it's not the Microprose offering, it's the Ascaron > offering. > > http://www.avault.com/
Odd... The Avault download page lists Ascaron as the developer and Hasbro as the publisher. I wonder if this says something about the origins of Microprose's new title? A little slip perhaps? DL'ing anyway, Steve B. "Pre-mix please, 50:1; shaken but not stirred"

Whatever it is, I've played it and it is _the_ GP500 from MP. So someone messed up somewhere <g> Tony
Hasbro owns Microprose who is publishing the title and Ascaron, a German company I believe, is indeed the developer. Kyle > > What are you talking about? After you download it could you rate it at Avault. Evidently only arcade morons have rated it so far. After 9 votes an average of only 18. Kyle

Someone made a mistake, the developer is Infogrames Melbourne House. The lead programmer for GP500 has a site at http://torps.com/gp500/index.html

Click on the "downloads" link on the menu on the left side of the main page and then click on the "demo rater" link near the bottom of the menu on the left. Kyle

One word: WOW!! I'm really impressed... the helmet cam view is very well done and the physics are as good as I've seen in a motorcycle game to date (anyone seperated the front and rear brake and do a stoppie yet?? <g>). The feel on the edge of falling over (try stopping it in the grass to see what I mean) is eerily, eerily lifelike. It will be a long while before I win a race in this one, I need to find about 30 seconds per lap on the 100% AI (which is about right, I drive like a granny on a bike). Unlike EA SBK, where I won my very first race by a country mile (same max realism settings). Says something 'bout the relative difficulty and accuracy of the games methinks. And I still have to lose the auto-leaning... <vbg> Jan./we need FF handlebar controllers! ------ >http://www.avault.com/ >Don't know how it is just yet. just started the 18 MB download. >Kyle

I am really sorry to say that the sounds are just plainly perfect. Guess you never drove a two stroke engine before. SBK and Castrol sounds suck, yes...

>i just played it its actaully very good but the plastic does not go flying or >anything and the SOUND SUCKS !!!!! The engine sounds are actually very good. You can hear exactly what the engine is doing. However, the tiresounds while braking are none-existent. It seems like the bike has ABS. All you've to do is press full brake, and the bike will stop. But no acoustic feedback whatsoever. Also, while braking and steering/leaning at the same time, you get a low-side in such manner that I suspect it's canned. And so far I didn't get an highside eighter. And finally, the fact that you only can select 2 axis of your joystick/wheel is something I don't understand. Why separate the front and rear brake, implement driver lean and pitch, and then don't support more then 2 analog input devices? This is an huge dissapointment. Remco

I'll tell you one thing that's a bit odd with it; 20mph seems mindbogglingly fast in this demo. -- Gunnar -- '98 Super Primerbird '92 G00F2 #31 SUCKS#015 Tupperware MC#002 DoD#0x1B DoDRT#003 DoD:CT#4,8 Kibo: 2 de vakreste ord p? jord: saldo i Deres fav?r
