When I first played OF1R I tried it with my Voodoo2 but really didn't
like the way it looked (washed out). Since then I've reinstalled and
am using my TNT card for Direct 3D. However the options are only for
640x480 and 800x600. I play in 800x600 and it looks better than with
the Voodoo2. I thought I had heard this game is supposed ot run in
1024 x 768 in Direct 3D?

I just finished a few laps at Monza in D3D at 1024 x 768 and have never had
any problems with it at that resolution. It runs fine at that resolution on
my Hercules TNT1. Are you sure that you're not running in glide? I did my
original setup in glide to use my SLI, and that is the default when I run it
in autoplay so I only see it in 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 when I do that (I've
disabled the SLI). I go to the start/programs/etc folder to choose d3d and
only then do I see the higher res option. Just a thought.
I have a TNT2 Ultra and a Voodoo2 as well.
The game is very coppy with the TNT2, smooth as silk with the V2.
Go figure.
Another interesting observation. Tonight I decided to try Voodoo2
again. With TNT the game was slowing down, especially in the menus
(earlier I blamed this on the game seeking the CD rom), and I was
getting the occasional pause in the game (although it looked good). I
set up the Voodoo2 to force triple color buffering. The game no longer
had the washed out appearance I mentioned earlier.
Curiously enough, 3 other problems disappeared when I used the
Voodoo2:
1) While using the TNT the game shut down slowly, accompanied by a lot
of hard-drive thrashing (sometimes lasting up to a minute). This was
now gone.
2) The slow menus are no longer slow.
3) There are no longer occasional pauses in the game.
I am convinced this game has some problems with the TNT. Voodoo2
appears to be the best alternative when running OF1R. At least it is
in my case.
