Anyone experience this? I had N2K3 installed just fine, tried to do the 1201 upgrade and ran into a blue screen. I did an uninstall, rebooted, did a fresh install, rebooted, started a race to verify it was OK, did the 1.2.0.1 upgrade, rebooted, and another blue screen when I tried to start it. up. I get an error at 0028:DF6AD34E in VXD ZZZZZZZZ(01) + 0000234E . I clear that screen and get another fatal error at 0D 023F:0000529D . Every time, and I am baffled! I thought since I had made some changes in my original install that that was the cause of the hang, but with an uninstall and a careful reinstall using all default values plus many reboots that it would upgrade OK. But no joy. Anyone help??

redownload the patch, may be a corrupt file download. Sean

Also after you uninstalled the game did you delete the original folders created on the installation. Since you had mod's in there, the game will not remove them on uninstallation, you will have to do it manually. If you do not remove them and reinstall the game to the same folder, they will still be there and may be the cause of your problem Steve "> I thought since I had made some changes in my original install > that that was the cause of the hang, but with an uninstall and a > careful reinstall using all default values plus many reboots that it > would upgrade OK. Actually I installed to the default directory this time, before I had stuck it under another directory where I had N2K2. The default directory location had no effect. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ok, if you re-dl'd the upgrade, installed the game to a clean (default) folder, what about reg entries? Leave the game files intact. clean the reg of any files you can ID, *Is there a list somewhere?* and triple check your video drivers, maybe regress one version and try the upgrade. After that I guess I am checking the HD for errors, what version of windows are you running? what background programs? Sean

Aha! The patch might be finding remnants of the OLD installation during some sort of pre-install search. Make sure the old NR2003 folder is COMPLETELY gone. -Larry "Fan1" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Mon, 1 Dec 2003 08:06:00 -0500, "Steve" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >Also after you uninstalled the game did you delete the original folders > >created on the installation. Sean, You _did_ uninstall from the old location using the proper uninstall utility, right ? If not, the registry probably still has entries pointing to the OLD install directory, which now might have missing files, and thus the errors you get. If the installer looks in the registry for file locations, and you did not uninstall it properly, well, there ya go :) -Larry "McWhom" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Be VERY VERY careful about trying to clean the registry!!! I had a similar problem and tried somethng similar...ended up reinstalling the OS (and LOTS of other stuff). I am not saying it can't be done....but be sure you know what you are doing.... Just the 'voice of experiance..'... Fan1 wrote: > Anyone experience this? If this always happens right after you start N2k3, could it have to do with CD access? If that is it, there's a mini patch to the patch which cures a problem the patched N2k3 had with some CD drives. It's a copy protection thing AFAI remember. I got it from either Papy or bhmotorsports, I forget which, and in my case it helped. It's not very likely this is the case for you as well, but maybe try that. Achim
