waiting for INDYCAR RACING III

Any chance of an IndyCar Racing III?

A fan asked about a new IndyCar Racing title. Replies said Papyrus held a CART licence until 2001 but was busy with NASCAR Racing 3 and a NASCAR Legends title, and the CART/IRL split complicated matters. Posters suggested an Indy 500 sim spanning several eras, John Bodin pointed to a coming IRL game, and some blamed Sierra for Papyrus's focus on NASCAR.

there won't be... last I heard, no one is going to make a Indycar sim because of the breakup of CART and IRL. If they find a way to get back together, then perhaps we might see a sim. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a remake of the Indy500 Racing Sim that orginally came out back in the (80's?)

Well, many of us got hooked on PC racing with that one, but nowadays think about this: any likelihood people would buy a racing sim with only ONE track and 3 cars? Maybe if they'd model the ENTIRE Indy500 experience it'd sell (winner's circle, drive to the garage area, etc.), but I'd think they'd be vilified here for only a single track! Gunner

Well, could they work on a patch for it possibly so we get like 800X600 resolutions, textures, and 3d acceleration or something? Just to make it less of an eyesore? :) Dan Belcher Team Racing Unlimited
Wherever you got your information from, you need to send it back. Its not a sim, but nonetheless the Dreamcast will have a nice looking arcade CART racer on it. Microsoft still has a license to CART and so does Papyrus in addition to Sega. > there won't be... last I heard, no one is going to make a Indycar sim > because of the breakup of CART and IRL. > If they find a way to get back together, then perhaps we might see a sim. not so sure about that myself, if they made a HUGE game, like that if you REALLY wanted you could do the months practice etc, and perhaps you have to pass rookie test etc i would love it, and 500 miles too yyyyeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaa! -- TIM "Calm Down" WHEATLEY. I am talking about the fact that there is no CART simulation that has the Indy500 in it!! There was one cheesy game by ABC sports called Indy500: The experience. They had it all over the Indy track last year (or was it the year before?). Like I said, the last I heard, no one is going to make an 'indycar' sim because of the break ups!! You misunderstood... I didn't say CART, I said Indycars. There is a difference now.. remember? IRL races indycars, CART races CART cars. you can't call them indycars if they never GO to Indy now can you? > Wherever you got your information from, you need to send it back. Its not a

Just imagine.. you have to start by earning enough money to get yourself a team. You have to 'roleplay' with sponsors. Then you can practice.. your car, test it in the wind tunnel..etc. Finally, the big day comes and the game makes it as though you are really on the track. You can walk ala Quake engine to your car... get in your car.. etc.. That would be too cool! > there won't be... last I heard, no one is going to make a Indycar sim > because of the breakup of CART and IRL. > If they find a way to get back together, then perhaps we might see a sim. Why not have one track in different eras. Such as: 1911-challenge Ray Harroun 1919-the Birckyard after the war 1940-Indy during the Depression 1946-Hulman takes over 1965-Indy in tye-dye 1986-IMS turns 75 1995-the last true 500 And have cars race in their respective eras. Now I would buy that! Cheers, Eric Brighton You know what to do with the NOSPAM in the reply address "They were called test pilots...and no one knew their names."

Damn fine idea, except that you-know-who in his Ivory Tower in Indianapolis, would never go for it unless it included the Irrelevent Racing League ;-) don [|]-(_)-[|]

You heard wrong. No CART sims are forthcoming that I know of, but we will definitely something that features Indy-style cars in the near future: http://irlinsider.adnetweb.com/sims/gtirl/ -- John Bodin Publisher, The IRL Insider Magazine http://irlinsider.adnetweb.com/

Not so cheesy, actually -- some die-hard ICR2 fans have actually stated that they found this game (which was actually titled "ABC Indy Racing: The Road To Indy") to be superior to ICR2 in some ways (the cars can actually get airborne to a certain extent, which indicates some sophistication in the physics modeling area). The sim overpowered the machines and video cards at the time; D3D was just arriving, as were the cards that supported it. It had the same problems as GP2 did in the hardware area, in fact; on a modern 300 MHz machine with a good video card and the steering tweak utility, the sim's actually pretty fun. Well, I can always dream, can't I? I remember day dreaming three or four years ago that it would be really cool to have a game that let you race cars from the but I bet four years ago none of us really thought a game like GPL would be so good. And as for Tony George, I plan on trying to find whoever put the curse on the Kennedys. Whoever it was who struck that family could be very helpful in resolving the CART IRL split. Again, I can dream can't I? Cheers, Eric Brighton You know what to do with the NOSPAM in the reply address "They were called test pilots...and no one knew their names."

Actually, there have been at least 3 CART sims since the breakup, and a 4th due very soon: CART Precision Racing, Newman-Haas Racing and the re-release of the patched ICR2 as CART Racing. Sega also has a CART game due for release soon. How can you guys *** so much? I understand that everyone wants a new CART sim, but come on! Papy gives you GPL, and you still complain? 'Forgetting their open wheel fan base'? Um, excuse me, but isn't GPL 'OPEN WHEEL'? ICR2 is still good - with some patches. Give them a break, they've been working constant on a sim a year (practically). They've pretty much listened to us and our wishes. (I don't want to start a flame war with threads like 'Papyrus Never Listens') When do they get a break? I'm sure they've heard everyone wants ICR3. (Well, most of us) They'll get around to it. In the meantime - why don't you grill EA or Ubi-Soft for one...
Kirk Lane 06 Aug 1999#484433
I would sort of attribute it to the Sierra buyout...holding off on a GPL-based NASCAR is just Sierra BS. Just about every other Papy game was released well before PCs were available that could run them with any real speed. Sierra just wants them to milk ye olde N2 engine. I betcha if Papy still had any real say, we'd be beggin for NASCAR 4 and ICR5... :) -- Kirk Lane ICQ: 28171652 BRT #187 "I read dead Russian authors volumes at a time I write everything down except what's on my mind 'Cause my greatest fear is the sucking sound And then I know I'll never get back out" -'Narcolepsy', Third Eye Blind > > > Papyrus in all likely hood,is done with ICR2.
