Q3test compatible drivers vs 1.02.11 (both with default settings except
splash screen disabled)
GPL version 1.1.0.3
no tinkering with Glide wrappers).
Tested fps at back of grid at Monaco, Monza and Mosport.
Before:
Monaco: 23fps
Monza: 28fps
Mosport: 24-25fps
After:
As above.
Short version is that there is no performance hit for the improved image
quality when using all default settings. Choosing smoother alpha blending
and high video display resulted in a hit of somewhere less than .5 (that's
zero point five) fps. I didn't see a difference in image quality when using
those settings, so will head on back to the defaults.
Framerates max out pretty much straight after the first turn.
If there was supposed to be a performance improvement with these drivers I
can only assume that the bottleneck is the processor...
One thing I tried (but only after installing new drivers, so no
comparatives) was the external view which gave the following results and
might indicate performance if you decided to lower mirror refresh rates:
Monaco: 29fps
Monza: 36fps
Mosport: 32-33fps
Bottom line: V3 owners - install those drivers now!
