Yeah, so it looks pretty dead at the original VROC! This bites, as I'm not
going anywhere near the GPL patch what with the problems it's giving people.
Guess I'll have to continue "playing with myself"...

You should at least give it a try, since a lot of us *aren't*
having problems. Most online slowdowns have been solved with using
the old sync method (0). Most offline slowdowns have been traced to
PCI internal modems. There will be a new patch, but that's weeks
away. So why deprive yourself, Mr. Pants?
If you feel really scared by the patch, either:
* do a completely separate install of 1.1, or
* save a copy of your 1.0 GPL.EXE and CORE.INI and swap with the 1.1
versions if you want to go back (that's what we're doing in the
GPLWS).

I've also felt that it's harder to get a decent race at VROC since the
1.1 patch came out.
There seem to be less drivers out there, but the main thing I've noticed
is that what with all these dedicated servers hosting races
continuously, the drivers are spread more thinly between them.
It seems to me that people stay in the paddock waiting to see which
server everyone else will join before committing themselves!
The pings are much better, but what's the point of that if you're the
only one in the race?
On top of all that, I've now found that the AI are great fun to race
with - the consensus seems to be that they've actually improved since
1.0, but I couldn't say that for certain - it's only recently that I've
become quick enough to compete with the top AI cars.

fill them. So for all of you who have been thinking about *maybe*
trying online racing, here's your opportunity. See you there!

I agree Chris, that's strange for us, isn't it.. ? :-)
On the subject of too many dedicated hosts and not enough drivers, down
here in Australia, a lot of us would love to join some of the dedicated
hosts of an evening (Australian time) but some of the dedicated hosts
in question have the maximum latency set too low to allow us to enter,
so the dedicated hosts simply sit their in all their low latency
dedicated glory doing no-one any good at all..
What's the sense of creating a dedicated host, if dedicated racers
can't get into it ?
Please, dedicated hosts, set your maximum latency allowed at 600, it
will certainly get more people involved in GPL, and "NO", a client with
a ping of 400 to 600 will NOT create warpy and accident prone racing.!!
Cheers,
Ron

I second that! Joined a race on an Australian host (I am from the
Netherlands, can't be further away <g>) and it was certainly raceable
with a latency of 650ms!
