OK I slightly scanned the manual and did not totally
RTFM.
However I noticed that when I would do a crappy lap
the pit board would show a good time. When I did a good
lap many times the pit board would show a poor time.
I finally figured out that the pit board must be showing you
the lap times from the previous lap! YIKES!!!!
I am having fun though :-)

Notable threadGPL pit board delays and misplaced pit board bug
Greg Cisko noticed GPL's pit board shows the previous lap's time, which others explained mirrors 1967 practice. Online racers then reported the pit board appearing in odd places, even in the middle of the track. Papyrus's Randy Cassidy explained the Nurburgring board had moved in 1.1, and said the misplacement was a bug linked to dedicated servers that he believed he had found and fixed.

Yup Greg...the pit board lap times are indeed delayed by one lap. Anyone
notice that the pitboard is hardly (if at all) mentioned in either of
the two GPL printed manuals? It is of course mentioned in the readme.txt
file.
Having a blast here too, Greg. The Logitech FF wheel is a great
enhancement to GPL and has replaced my TM GP1 wheel and it's
paddle-based throttle/accelerator. And even though I'm slow as a slug
(1:37:66 at Monza), it's still great fun. Seems like I could beat that
time in my real '94 Mustang GT (gimme a fresh set of Gatorbacks though).

That is the case. In '67 they had to put the numbers on the board and hold
them up when the driver came around the next time. You get used to it.
I am having a little difficulty though, with some of the new lap board
placements in GPL 1.1. It seems as though some of them are in the toughest
places to look :/

You finally got GPL ? Wow you did the correct step!. r.a.s. would love to
have a mini-review of what you finally think of GPL, and compared to the
other sims on the market. Finally you got it ! hehehe.

moved to the straight that is parallel to the front straight. This
gives your pit board guy time to stuff all the letters/numbers on the
board for the current lap.
Randy
Have you done your first lap at the Nurburgring yet ? :)
Or the first time you get airbone at the Flugsplatz and actually not wreck
after ? ;)
The first time you trail-brake into the Parabolica with a Lotus ? :)
Look at my signature Im not anymore the OMGuy of r.a.s. :)

I've been seeing it in very wierd places on VROC at tracks like Rouen
(Just before Six Freres) and Silverstone (at Abbey) - I just tested those
two tracks in practice and everything was fine :/

Don't think so... I had two Monza races at Alison's server last night.
In the first one the pitboard was in it's normal place, while in the
second it was at Ascari!
Also seen the board at Abbey at Silverstone, as well as at Malmedy at
Spa, and in T10 at Mosport.
I think the pitboardguy has become bored and starting to have fun with
us! It used to be just bogus intervals, now he's gone further and change
position from race to race :-)

I think so. Its place is defined in the track.ini-file, like the
starting grids. AFAIK the hosts track.ini file is used by every client
in an multiplayer race - that's why online hosts should have installed
the online-starting grids for cleaner starts.

You will only
register your first lap after the end of your third lap if your pit stall
happens to be in front of the start line. This effectively puts you a lap
down and hence effectively out of the race.

I ask this because a few nights ago I was in a race at Silverstone where we
had an unconventional start. When we all hit the green flag to go to the
start line, Mr Scotty beamed us all across to half way along the hangar
straight. We all sat there for an extremely long time owing to the fact that
the started had not been told about this change of plan. He was waving his
flag furiously in front of the pits of course <G>

And since Papy (hopefully that is) is patching the patch, I would like
to see this fixed.

failed to appear, and I had to disconnect from the server. If I immediately
reconnected without quitting GPL entirely, the car setup would always show
Zandvoort (but still contain the correct values, only with nr of laps
calculated for Zandvoort), AND the pitboard would be misplaced. I'am quite
sure that it was placed at the same spot as Zandvoort (same distance from
start/finish). In Rouen that was about Beauval/Gresil (back end of the
track).
The 1.1. readme states that the green button problem has been fixed now.
Maybe the setup/pitboard effect is still there in some form.

Wow!!
You REALLY were taken back in time, Randy!! :o)
Or is that a hint that a 1950s "pack" is coming for GPL???

Once online my boardguy positioned himself at the entrance to Curva
Grande...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK!!!!!!! So I basically ran through him
every lap...though the first time I saw him I mistook him for a stalled car,
and, well... Considering the speeds you get at the end of the front
straight at Monza I hardly had time to read the sign before (if you could
really hit the people in GPL) he would become a large red spot on the
pavement (carmageddon anyone?).

I once had the pit board guy standing in the middle of the track, about 500
yards past the start, at Monza. I had to run him down 15 times during that
race <g>
