Every half hour or so, my monitor blacks out for about one long
second. It seems to happen only when playing GPL. The monitor is a
Viewsonic PT775, and has very high refresh rates. The resolution
setting doen't seem to make any difference in this characteristic. Has
anyone seen this problem? (in one second, you can go quite a way at
180 mph!)

Are you positive that you don't have any power saving features turned on
somewhere (BIOS, Win9x)?

Hmm, my guess would've been a resolution that had a refresh rate your
monitor didn't like. Maybe mellow the refresh rate (dumb it down a little)
before jumping in GPL.

I have the PT775 and I also have that problem from time to time and in my
case, it's not GPL related. I also know a person at work that has the PT775
and the same problem. MIght be time to ask ViewSonic some questions...

Danny, I did email Viewsonic. They said to connect the monitor to
another computer to see if it's the monitor or the video card.
Unfortunately I don't have access to another machine. Per Mike
Carver's suggestion-I repect him as a good resouce-I searched the book
for some way to access power-saving function-didn't find any, also
fiddled w/WIN95, couldn't find anything there. BIOS-don't know how to
access or tinker with that. On the brighter side, I know now how it
feels when they put the hood over your head before execution! :)
Appreciate very much all the responses, wonderful Group.Sam

Sometimes it just goes into
sleep mode and I have to reboot. Tried flashing my BIOS and different video
cards but nothing has worked so far.

DELETE (not backspace, the delete key) to access the BIOS. Be wary of what
you change in there - if it doesn't clearly say 'Video Powersaving Mode' or
something VERY close, don't mess with it.
