Weird problem with MS FF

3 posts by 2 people · 19 Jul 1999 - 19 Jul 1999

Hello, Last night i was trying out Wargasm with my MS FF joystick, but nevertheless, you just want to return to those race-sims. So I turned off my computer, changed the power from the joystick to the MS FF wheel, and changed connection to my SB Live Value card. And you know what. My computer wouldn't f**king start. Not at all, completely dead. I noticed that when i put in the connector to the wheel, my monitor made some on/off noises, because it was still on, and that puzzles me too. The funny thing is that the computer works fine with the joystick or nothing at all connected. Is my wheel dead ? Then, this morning, just before going to work, i tried again. And it suddenly worked fine with my wheel connected. Pretty weird. -- Olav K. Malmin remove spam when replying
It's a Compaq Presario 5296, don't laugh yet :) I got it partly paid by my employer which means that I didn't have any choise whatsoever. Oh, I could have chosen a laptop, that would make some interesting simracing. It have worked every day until yesterday evening, and today it worked again.

My machine (Abit BH6 mobo) has a similar problem - if I shut it down and leave the (ext) modem and monitor turned on, the machine won't turn on until I turn the modem and monitor off, turn the switch on the back of the PSU off and remove the MSFF plug from the back of the soundcard. Even turning everything off doesn't work unless I remove the MSFF plug. Presume it's due to charge buildup in a capacitor somewhere - all the devices have their own power source. MM remove the obvious... > > x-no-archive: yes > > Is it a chaintech motherboard? > > Mine has a design fault, which means that you have to let the MB start up before > > powering up any extenals devices. > > R. > It's a Compaq Presario 5296, don't laugh yet :) I got it partly paid by my > employer which means that I didn't have any choise whatsoever.
