Now I drive a number of sims (ICR1, F1RS, CPR, NFSx, etc) and when I first
started playing SCGT I loved it. However, I have started to notice that the
AI drivers don't seem to see me if my car is beside theirs. For instance if
I outbrake someone going into a corner and am side by side the AI will
simply push me off the road while driving its racing line even if I'm on it.
I've never seen this behavior before in a sim (except CPR prior to the
patch). Has anyone else noticed this glaring behavior? I have also notice
while being punted all over the track that when ever my car hits an ai car
that I have never seen the AI go off, its always is me. What gives?
Dan
This happens to me too. But I, unlike you, punt an AI car as soon as I catch
back up to them for revenge:)

The AI in SCGT leaves a -lot- to be desired, and apparently, since
there is -never- any word from the developers, they don't plan to
fix it.
There is good AI in TOCA2 and in OF1R, to name a couple of
recent titles that you may want to try..

Ain't that the truth man?
Damn I had about a 10 minute fight with one of the GT2 Porsches.
I like to get inside them on a turn and drift.......

Most of the time you can pretty much predict what's coming and prepare
yourself. Still, I would advice you to be the aggressor: punt before
getting punted, that way you don't have to guess what the AI is going to
do and thus, you can retain the control of your car.
If an AI car hits you and never goes off, it's just because he initiated
it and consequentially, could predict the behavior of his car much better
than you, the unsuspecting victim.
An extreme example:
If you will, you can be a kamikaze too... A while back in Chatham my
Panoz was considerably slower through the oval section than most of the
AI cars. Otoh, I usually caught them on the slower, curvy section, but
couldn't quite slip past them. Frustrated, I adopted a technique that
should've earnt me a black flag for sure. In one of the curves where I
usually caught the AI cars, I started to push them, just so much that it
would make them spin.
If you time it right (accelerating out of the curve), you can actually
make them spin with just a gentle push (won't hurt your car) to one
corner of the AI car. My "track record" for that race was six inflicted
spins and one off-road.
Obviously, I'm not encouraging anyone to drive like this. But it does
demonstrate that you don't have to put up will all the AI tricks, they're
just as vulnerable as you are.
I would advice you to steer clear from the most heated fights, take
advantage of the few overtaking opportunities and mistakes of the others
and if you're really battling it out with an AI car, don't let the AI to
take the initiative. Place yourself so that you can control the
situation.

What if it isn't a problem with SCGT but a problem with the other sims' AI.
I enjoy the aggressive drivers. I mean you said it for yourself, when you
go to pass someone, you expect him to move over and let you through instead
of providing resistence. What is wrong with actually racing another car?
Well that is my opinion. I think it is nice to finally get to race the
computer and fight for position.

I agree. And what's more, in their aggressiveness, they also make
mistakes - without any humane intervention. Adds a lot to the racing.

Well its good in one respect, but in another its bad. You really have to
have a nose ahead not to get hammered and usually in racing the overtaking
car should only need to get its front tire to the door of the other car to
be allowed room to race. I don't expect em to move over, but when I have
the line and am side by side with em the need to give me room to race. I
am getting used to it there is one spot at Lime Rock where you do not want
to be or you will get hammered.
Dave
When the AI hits me, I tap the brake. That keeps me from flying of the
track.
However it's not always possible to react, though the AI is capeable of fast
reactions.
Borchers
There are spots like that all over each track, but the fun factor's still
there. The AI's no Matrix, but the word 'entertaining' springs to mind.
And I'm always happy to see the computer cars racing hard against one
another and racing incidents taking place around me without me being
necessarily involved or initiating any of them. Easily adds a touch of
realism by reducing the all too common feeling of being the sole humane
factor in a caravan of droids.

Same here.
Yeah I liked it at first, but tired of it quickly. Of course it's
going to be hard for anything to pull me away from GPL 1.1!

Instead of using their stubborn behavior against you, use it to your
advantage. 8 tires hold better than 4. If you get half your car next to
them, use their car to hold you on the inside line of the turn. Just get on
the gas and make some slight contact then stay right on their door and push
out. They have some good grip and should hold you on the track or they may
run off the track but you just have to race rough with them. You ever watch
touring car racing? That is the best racing I have ever seen and you see
them doing the same things as the AI drivers in SCGT do. Except when they
damage a panel, it doesn't slow them down quite as much as SCGT does.
