GPL 1.1: still getting MASSIVE warping and stuttering online

I've tried every fix posted to this group, I've tried empty ini files, I've tried Alison's INI file ... no matter what I do I get MASSIVE warping of other cars under GPL 1.1 online (this system worked perfectly with 1.0). Cars beaming in and out all over the damn place. This is even with sweet sub-100 pings. I also get a bizarre "stuttering" problem. Every 10-20 seconds my own car flashes out of existence for a split second (it's easy to see in chase view and replays). Even if I stop racing entirely and just watch, the replay screen still has this stutter. If anyone had any other suggestions please post them here. I'm writing a little article on GPL 1.1 and GPaL this week (probably be posted on the net next Monday) and I'd really, really like to get this worked out before I have to submit it. My system: P2 300, 128 MB RAM, 12MB Voodoo2, Logitech FF wheel, and a fast cable modem. Thanks Jason. I think I was in that same race - with bad warping. I'll try the net_lan settings at 3/84. BTW, I presume I should also have "net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 0"? Im in the same boat as you. I get a solid 36 FPS and when someone joins a race Im hosting my frames, intermittently go from 36 to below 4. So I get a complete freeze of the sim for a few seconds and then it comes back. Crazy stuff. I have tried every conceivable INI file on the planet, and sync, clock etc...setting with no luck. To bad I really like the force feedback. (yea I tried turning it off as well) Rick Sweeney

>With a cable modem the net_lan_XXXXX entries should be set to 3/84 as >well. The new ini file suggests 2/150ish. Please change them to 3/84. Tried that, it made no difference, still massive stuttering. Even just sitting there at the beginning of the race, other cars are disappearing from the starting gate, re-appearing 10 seconds later. I can't use sync_method 0 at all, I get a massive jolt/stutter everytime it does a clock adjust (with synch_mode = 1 I only get the jolt once a lap). >To bad I really like the force >feedback. Same here. I also tried turning it off and the game felt .. I don't know, *sterile* or something. Not to mention much harder to drive. Oh well, GPaL will be out tomorrow so offline racing will be more fun. But I'd hate to have to include all this negative info in my GPL 1.1 patch review. Nope.. you want to reduce the number of packets sent through the cable modem so keep it to 1. net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 1 ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP Basically, the cable modem looks just like a LAN connection to GPL so we need to tell it to use modem-like setttings :D Jason.

Joe, stop being an ass. This sim has been the best racing sim in existence for the past year, and if they screwed some things up with a patch I'm sure they'll just release another patch that fixes things.....stop acting like a baby. I doubt your piddly little review will make a dent in anyone's day. > >Nope.. you want to reduce the number of packets sent through the cable modem so > >keep it to 1. > >net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 1 ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP

It's free, it's reversible, and anyone that cares already has it and knows the issues (because they're in RAS). What's the point? Tim

Well, I tried; Too bad it didn't help. The only change I did after installing the patch was to revert to the old rast3Dfx.dll file because my V2 worked better with it. I'm also using the Banshee patch to reduce the mirrors to draw every 2 frames. My online play is just like before (can't see any change for the better or worse yet). P2/333 and detail 0%, ..., even turned of round tires for the extra few cycles, hehe. Jason.

>Patch review? >It's free, it's reversible, and anyone that cares already has it and >knows the issues (because they're in RAS). What's the point? I know a patch doesn't normaly get reviewed, but the force-feedback support is so far beyond anything else available I thought it deserved an article. More of an "editorial/update" than a full review. Also, with GPaL (and FF support) I really believe the game will be opened up to a much wider audience. BTW, I don't personally consider the patch reversible. The problems are online, and no one's racing 1.0 anymore. Also, for me, the car is SO much more drivable with FF I couldn't see going back to 1.0 anyway.
