Will the Logitech Wingman Force or Formula Force and accompanying software work with a non-3D graphics card with 2MB of Video Memory? My systems include a Thinkpad 1411 (300MMX with Neo Magic MagicGraph 128ZV+ and 32 MB of RAM) and a Toshiba 335 (266MMX with 96 MB RAM and a Chips and Tech 65555 PCI video adapter). Both only support 2MB of Video Memory. How about the Thrustmaster Nascar Force GT? Also, does this include any application software, or just drivers? Thanks, Don Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
Logitech Formula Force you need either an available serial port or a USB port to run. I honestly dont remember what software came with the wheel, I think it was Motorhead...and if so then probably wont run real well with 2MB of memory.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. I have a serial port and a USB port on both machines, but would like to use USB in both cases for its PNPlay. You are right about MotorHead coming with the Wingman Formula Force. The Wingman Force (JStick) comes with Redline Racer, Decent: Free Space, and another app. When you say that Motorhead "probably won't run real well with 2 MB", are you also implying that it WILL run? If so, will the feedback be apparent? Can you or anyone comment on the Jstick and its associated software running on my systems? Also, what about compatibility of either of these devices with non-FF software? Will most of the non-Force windows software work, but just without the FF? TIA, Don > Logitech Formula Force you need either an available serial port or a USB > port to run. No idea to be honest. It depends on if the game has a software renderer, if so it might run, but probably slowly depending on the processor in the laptop. And if it does run and you have a force feedback wheel hooked up, it should yes.

In Windows 98, you need a game port to install the Logitech even though the Logitech connects to RS232 or USB. Keith.

As far as I know Force Feedback does not depend on your Video card. You may want to upgrade (if possible) just on general principals. -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes. cisko [AT] ix [DOT] netcom [DOT] com >Will the Logitech Wingman Force or Formula Force and accompanying >software work with a non-3D graphics card with 2MB of Video Memory? Thanks again, Chris. I've finally decided just to get a inexpensive joystick/gamepad for the time being. When I add a more powerful desktop down the *road* a bit, then I'll probably join you force-feedback folks. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don't.

Thanks for the info, Keith. Sounds like a crazy design by Logitech, since MS/Intel are planning to do away with serial/parallel/game connectors, and the whole purpose of USB is to make things simpler. Thanks for the reply, Greg. You and everyone else, have pretty much convinced me to not waste my money at this point, but to wait until I get a more powerful desktop. Don

Actually you don't need a game port for the Logitech. If you look on the CD, there's a support directory with a readme/FAQ that explains that in order for W98 to recognize the steering wheel you may need a VIRTUAL game port. There's a little utility they provide that will install that for you. That's what I did when I removed my ACM card. Later, Martine
