Okey dokey fellas, seems there must be duplicates to some of the tracks out there? But what is up with the "SPA-Francor<cant spell it anyway>" that was up last evening (at least 2 servers had it up?) PWF's are clearly marked PWF so that there is no misconception on whether or not I (or you) have that track... Where the Heck did you guys get one? I got one off the USPITS site, under NR2003/tracks I believe. says 3 major things are changed when I tried to get in a race. It don't matter as such, I just am "guessing" that the version you got is preferred rendition or something? I also just wonder I see more or less 2 tracks listed under TPTCC site, about 20 under NR2003/tracks on the pits, yet there are several tracks people a running I would like to atleast see? Even if I don't join a race... Yah, Im not road course person, I get lost at Pocono sometimes (more than 4 turns HEHEHEHEE), but I like to try to imporve-expand ya know? Appreciate the info guys, and read the above with the intended "jest" that I wrote it with... --Sting32

No wonder you get lost at Pocoho. That 4th turn is a real duese :-) IIRC a group is trying to promote a standard on track creation. I don't have the details but maybe someone in the know can explain in more detail. You didn't download Spa from us :-), as far as we are concerned the only way to get it is by having GPL and using David Noonan's converter to get it into N2003 Spa, like many other tracks in the converter has been updated in the latest version of the converter, released only a couple of weeks ago, to support the PTA physics, my guess is that the races on Sierra were using the latest version and you had an older one or something Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
Goy, Crap, sure didnt mean to stand here and proclaim that the pits had a track that they didnt. So at anyrate, I have the GPL, NRlegends, and all NR2 - NR03 CD's. So how do I make sure I get compatable tracks? I infer from your reply that I need to buy noonans converter to get the track? (obviously omitting dling it from somewhere) Goy, can ya clarify this while your at it? If I have the track installed on GPL, (which I do) and some of the updates I found using the GPL track database, what are the chances of having the "compatable" track to what the server(s) might have loaded? What is the 'plan' about this, or is this even a problem? Is the converter only going to make 1 definite version? I mean I have seen 2 or 3 "versions" of IRP now including the PWF one, the others (probably back a year ago where I also found the Spa track?) I suppose I am asking something along the lines of "can/will you tell me where to pirate some software" when in fact I am not meaning to. I do read a lot, but sometimes I just dl and race, so I don't/didn't know that finding tracks were violating some thing, be it Noonans software nor the tracks original makers. Thanks for the info and for getting me straight Goy. --Sting32 "Goy Larsen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > > Sting32 wrote: > > > > Okey dokey fellas, seems there must be duplicates to some of the tracksout > > there? So how do I make sure I get compatable tracks? I infer from > your reply that I need to buy noonans converter to get the track? > (obviously omitting dling it from somewhere) LOL, it was just a tad amusing that's all :-), yes, the fact of the matter is that the end result you get when running the converter is copyrighted, it contains Papy code (not distributed with the converter, it's copied from the tracks you provide) as well as a lot of David's hard work and knowledge, there's a lot of tricks to get these old tracks to run in N2003 In my opinion, and quite a few others, the 20 dollars or so that David is asking for his converter is well worth it for 39 tracks or how many there's in there now, if you want to see how the latest converter works, there's a demo converter you can DL from our place, it converts 4 tracks and has been updated with the latest PTA stuff

The recommended procedure is to convert a "basic" track to ensure online compatibility, if you have DL'ed some of the rather stunning updates to the original tracks and want to run on those as well, I suggest converting the track twice, one with the add ons and one without, one for offline use and one for online The basic tracks don't look "bad" when run through the converter, but obviously it can't compare to such tracks as the special updates they did for Monaco for instance, but there's on option in the converter to "include updates" when you convert a track, some tracks, like BullRun and Nurburgring have been updated for N2003, and a couple of others as well if memory serves me right, hopefully more tracks will get that treatment, try DL'ing the latest version of BullRun that was totally reworked for this year's BR1000 by David "KESSMAN57" Kesterson from Torn8oalley.com The "plan" when running converted tracks is to run a "basic" conversion, you can add updates afterwards if they are available as that doesn't' affect the track.dat file, but updates before conversion is included in the track.dat and you end up with a different track.dat than the next guy who had different updates installed to his GPL track For new tracks, see the TCG guide I posted link to earlier, it's posted on several major sites and message boards as a "guide" to a naming convention for 3rd party tracks > I suppose I am asking something along the lines of "can/will you tell me > where to pirate some software" when in fact I am not meaning to. I do read > a lot, but sometimes I just dl and race, so I don't/didn't know that finding > tracks were violating some thing, be it Noonans software nor the tracks > original makers. Thanks for the info and for getting me straight Goy. Well, I fully support the editors, which means I don't visit sites that offers stuff for DL that's not theirs to offer, there is one site in particular who offers tracks for DL without giving proper credit to the original author, be it David Noonan or others, they even have the gall to put things like this in the readme "please do not repost without our permission", whereas Steve B's SimRacingConnection site, which probably has a more extensive collection of tracks links than any pirate site, only links to the author's DL page and not even directly to the files themselves, this means that the original authors has full control over his work and has the opportunity to provide some info to the people who visits his site, maybe get a hit or two that gets him another dollar in sponsorship ads ot whatever Most of the time however the author gets nothing but a little kick out of seeing that yet another person has visited his site and DL'ed his track, and in my not so humble opinion, all the authors out there deserve that we at least give them that, the credit they deserve And yes, I feel strongly about this :-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--

I agree that all the versions floating around are a pain: I have to keep 2 different versions of Spa on my hard drive because I never know if a server will have the up-to-date one or not (I wish Dave had gotten rid of that awful bump coming out of the La Source hairpin-I guess it was a side effect of moving the pit entrance). I hope in a year or so that problem will be minimized (some track creators are wise and include the version number in the track name, e.g. "RoadOne 1.0" to avoid such issues). John DiFool

The Spa track has some really good GRAPHIC updates...which I believe do NOT change the original dat file. Do graphic updates like this mess up Noonan's convertor?? dave henrie
I can't say for sure Dave but just in case I personally always convert by pointing the convertor straight to my GPL CD as the GPL install instead of the directory where GPL is actually installed. There's an option to attempt to use graphic addons when doing the conversion. If you leave the box unchecked, it uses whatever is in the .dat file. I haven't tried converting updates that come with a dat (like those on http://stevelife.m4driving.sm) but I *think* they would use the updates. Jason

It doesn't mess up the converter and in many cases it will include the updates in the conversion, I haven't done this myself as I've always used a "basic" conversion, but I've read that some people have had problems racing online by including the updates, this may vary from update pack to update pack of course Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
