Want 36 fps with GPL 1.1? This works for me.

I'm running a P2400 w/64MB Ram and a 12MB Voodoo2, and am using an Act Labs USB FF wheel with TSW2 pedals. I run GPL with the following Graphics settings: Resolution: 800x600 3D Accelerator: 3DFX Detail Bias: 50% Mirror Detail: Cars and Track* Trackside Objects: All All features checked * IMPORTANT: Get this http://www.the-fastlane.com/patches/glide2x.zip (It's George M. Smiley's Glide Wrapper). Put it in your main GPL directory along with Glide.INI. In Glide.INI I have these settings: GPL Override=0 Resolution=8 Mirror Frequency=3 (THIS IS WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE) You will not notice the difference in your mirrors, but you will surely notice the difference in frame rate. David, Slightly off topic but, I noticed you were running an Act Labs USB FF wheel with TSW pedals. I have a TSW now and have been thinking about getting the Act Labs FF wheel. What did you have to do to use the TSW pedals with the Act Labs wheel? Was it just a matter of having both connected and choosing which you wanted to use in GPL, or did you have to set up some kind of "virtual" joystick? Thanks, Wayne Hutchison
The Force RS is plugged into my USB port and the wheel runs fine without the pedals connected. My TSW2 wheel is under my desk - it and the pedals are connected to my game port. The Force RS needs to be Contoller #1 and the TSW will be #2. GPL see's them both. David Cook

Well Bruce, maybe I'm just so used to cars blowing by me that I didn't realize it was because of my mirrors ;) Seriously - To each his own. I prefer having 36 fps in front of me, and a little less in my mirrors. David Cook

So... You can use a FF USB wheel (I wonder if ACT RS, and Logitech FF wheels will work this way too?) and just connect the pedals to the soundcard's game port... But doesn't win95 only allow you to support one controller at a time??? Or does GPL let you override this limitation ? What about other racing games like ToCA2, CMR, F1RS, N2, etc..... Thanks!!! On Sat, 10 Jul 1999 16:48:40 GMT, David, thank you SO much for posting this. I didn't know I could use my TSW pedals with my Force RS (serial port version). My GPL immersion is now pretty much overwhelming... :) Thanks again, -- * rrevved at mindspring dot com * unit.26 - s.p.u.t.u.m. * http://www.cabal.net * http://www.sputum.com
You need Win98 for proper USB support. "But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

This works for me and my LWFF and F1Sim peds, with win95 Dont know and dont care Jay. I have
You WILL notice the difference in your mirrors, David. I run at the second of the update levels (every second frame) and even with that the action of following cars is irritating at times....one second they are on the left then FLASH!.... suddenly they are on the right. I tried the third setting but that was extremely annoying!
My project in the morning will be to extend the shifter from my TSW2 wheel assembly to my desktop somehow. I have ordered the RS Shifter from Act Labs, which BTW will work in "up and down" mode for GPL, but don't want to deal with these paddle shifters for 2 more months. Someone posted that the TSW wheels are excellent because you forget about them when you're driving. I agree. With these Force RS paddle shifters I'm thinking way too much about where the hell they are in a corner instead of concentrating on more pressing issues. I'll let you know what I come up with...
